Apache Server - 5/27/2004 17:59:29
I've just installed the Apache server on my WinXP Pro box, hoping to learn a bit of PHP. I believe it is up and running okay, but I don't know where "localhost" is located. I would like to try and have it display a page, any page. Right now it displays a default "Seeing this instead of the website you expected?" page and I can then click on a link to read documentation. But, I don't know where localhost files should go. Any ideas?

thanks, brian

localhost can be found at;

http://127.0.0.1

in your browser

I guess I wasn't too clear. using "http://127.0.0.1" or "http://localhost" returns the Apache default page.

Using IIS Server, the directory for placing my index.html, or any other pages are in "inetpub/wwwroot". What directory should I use for Apache? I was thinking it was the "program files/apache group/apache2" because it was pulling up the manuals underneath this in the "manual" directory, but I'm not having any luck.

%Installation Directory%\htdocs

%Installation Directory% is normally C:\Program Files\Apache or something close to that

Thanks, Dan. That's what I was looking for!

I just need to get my simple "Hello World" php to work now! :)

And got "hello world" working now. I didn't know I needed to install PHP too! :)

Now, off to a PHP tutorial...
