Can results page be updated? - 5/29/2004 13:39:42
Hi everyone. Great spot you have here.

I have looked around and can not find the answer to this; maybe someone can point me in the right direction.

Here is where this project is at so far:

I have been able to create a form that allows users to input information, and that information is sent to the database. I have also been able to create a results page using the DRW.

My question is this, is it possible on the results page to add either a checkbox or dropdown box next to a field and somehow update that record? Would it be possible to update the record by simply going to the next record or will there need to be a "submit" button? Is this super complicated, or super simple, what am I missing??

The idea for this came from MS Access. In a database I created I was able to make a "Page" that did exactly what I am trying to do, but it seems to make the leap to the web is about impossible. Well, impossible to someone like me anyway. :)

Anyway, great site and I appreciate all the help I have got so far.

Thanks,

JL

Can you elaborate a little? The level of difficulty depends alot on whether you are talking about updating more than one record at a time or not. Updating individual records is relatively simple. Mass updating, in my opinion, is quite complex. The common way of updating a single record is to create an update form and then hyperlink one of the fields in your results so when clicked the user goes to the update form and it is prepopulated with the data from the record to be edited. The form, in turn, submits to a page whereon sits the SQL that updates the record. Would that work for you?

Thanks so much for responding!

One at a time is what I am trying to do. Let me draw you a picture:

Two of my guys are out getting information on companies that we hope will want to join our site (another site altogether built by a company that did it in coldfusion). Once the information is gathered, it is sent to a database. I would like a results page that allows my other two guys to update said information in the altogether other site. This is a 5 step process (yeah, the altogether other site wasn't planned that well). What needs to happen is the second set of guys need to go through the results one at a time and check off processes as they go. I would prefer them to be able to update straight to the "results" page, but I am not sure if that can even be done.

Here is a link of where I got this idea from.

I am not really wanting the top part of the page to be the text boxes, I would rather they show up as just text. But, at this point if there was an easy way of doing what that picture looks like, on the web I am game!

This is so simple to do in access, but it seems it's almost impossible in FrontPage. Or, and this could be the problem, I can't see the simple way of doing this. I would think that if you can create this page in access, it would be possible to somehow publish it to the web.

Thanks again for the response.:)

I should change my nickname to BACKWARDSBOY!

I was able to do all what I wanted through Access. During my last post, I kept thinking "it's GOT to be easy, it's GOT TO BE EASY!". Well, it was. I just created a Data Access Page in Access, imported it to my site and pointed my browser to the .htm file that was created. I had to change some security settings, but to get job done it will be a no brainer.

Thanks again for trying to help!
