Changing frontpage guestbook script - 5/29/2004 14:40:29
Hello, I'm trying to set up the guestbook that comes with FrontPage, but when I post comments, the answers are not lined up with the question. Is there something in the script I can edit to properly align the text? Also, how do you set the date format (i.e. mmddyy) and how do you set it to display 12-hour time format rather than 24? Each new post is added at the bottom of the list. Is there a way to reverse the order to have the latest posts on top? And one last thing, can I have it so that you don't have to manually refresh the page to see the latest posts? I need to do these changing before next wednesday! Hurry please

Hi and welcome to OutFront! I've used the guestbook provided by FrontPage in 2 ways: One is just a posting page, like a true guestbook. The posts all line up, but it is not possible to reply directly to any post. It's used more as a comments page. The other one is used as a forum, and replies may be made directly to any post at any time. I do not know of a way to change the indentation. I find the indentation helpful. As the forum gets larger with replies it is easier for a visitor to track what he has or has not read. Also, as the forum grows, you can save the older posts to an archive that may still be accessed by everyone, but keeps the more current posts easier to peruse. I'll check on the time issue; I don't know. Whenever I visit the pages, I do not need to refresh; sounds like that is more of a browser setting or Internet provider issue. I know people with AOL that access the forum sometimes need to refresh several times before they see the new posts, and users with IE need to make sure that refresh is checkmarked for "every time a page is visited". When using any of the other other options, a manual refresh will be needed to see the new posts. Are you considering a quick "how to..." posted at the top of the forum for users to read? Good luck, I'm sure it will turn out great! trish
