Online Store or Buy Button - 6/2/2004 16:21:02
Hey, I just recently started designing my own site, http://www.jjcrochet.com, and I know practically NOTHING. I searched the net to find if anyone knew how to help me!

I am selling my crocheted items and was having trouble with setting up my online store. I don't want to play $25 a month for the agoracart.com helpline, so I wanted to know if anyone else could help me. I would rather prefer to have a "BUY IT NOW" button at the bottom of every product, but if that is too complicated, then I would like to know if anyone can help me set up my online store. Please let me know if you can help!

You can always use www.PayPal.com . Instructions for using PayPal buy now buttons are on their site, you could also just find someone here to do it for you for a very small fee.

Use PayPal. Dead easy to put the buttons on. If you're only dealing with a UK market you could also go for Nochex. Cheaper than Google and no sign up required for customers.

[edit] GOOGLE!!!! I must be drunk!

I've wondered if there were options besides Paypal? If you look at my site: www.acorncreekprimitives.com it's hosted through www.primmart.com They have built in shopping carts. I pay $20/month.

Eventually I'd love to learn how to make my own shopping cart. There's places that you can pay to have one but I think they are pretty expensive.

In the meantime Paypal is a good start. If customers don't want to or don't have an account thru Paypal they would have to email you with their order or maybe you could set up some sort of form that they could fill out to place their order.

If you are in the US you can opt to have users not signing up. There's a switch in the payment options under the merchant tab. Doesn't appear outside the US though.

There are loads of other payment gateways but PayPal and Nochex are the most flexible for a decent price.

I give customers the options - PayPal, Nochex, Cheque/PO by mail.

If you go with PayPal then look at their shopping cart. Plug it into your site, tailor the colours to match. Costs nothing. :)

I've used mal's ecommerce solutions for years - http://www.ait2000.com/

dead simple to set up - and free!

Thanks for all the replies - So is Pay Pal free and is it the best option. I know VERY LITTLE and would like something that's easy, free, and preferably, fast.
I'll look and thanks for your comments!

Free, no. But it is pretty close to it. There is a $.30 cent transaction fee + another %.

All of that information is displayed on their site.

There is also a PayPal FrontPage addin that creates buttons for you and can also create a view cart button.

mal's ecommerce

I would highly recommend trying mal's as well. It is extremely customizable and free to boot, unless you want a premium set-up. I wouldn't think that was necessary for your business, but even that is very inexpensive.

Wait a sec. So there is a fee for Pay Pal? Crud. I was looking on their site thinking that this had to be too good to be true, but I couldn't come up with any payment plan. Well, I might HAVE to do that if it's my only option.

It was so easy and fast, just what I needed. Final Question:
Is there a shopping cart that is ABSOLUTELY free and extremely EASY to set up? I mean, seriously, there has to be something out there......
Thanks again

There are free carts but credit card processing is never free.

maybe I am just grumpy today but..why is it that everyone (ok not everyone) wants a product that takes something complex, makes it simple, easy to set up..and such product should be absolutley free???

Why pay for something if you can get the exact same results for free?

It is just smart to shop around because you go spend some money. It isn't because you are American, it is because you are smart to shop before you buy.

That came out wrong - I meant that we (as Americans) are so used to getting what we want for the price we want, that we're not willing to pay for something if we know that something better's out there. Wow - that was deep. Anyways, I found that Pay Pal will do what I'd like to do for just a small fee that's very reasonable.

Thanks again for your suggestions - they really helped!
