We can't provide the real answer for this question.
Many users will tell you that FrontPage is better, others will tell you that Dreamweaver is better, and there will be those that say neither. The FrontPage Vs Dreamweaver debate is all a personal fight.
The only advice we can successfully give you is, use which ever you find easiest.

probably the most agreed upon distinction would be this:
1.front page is much easier to learn than dreamweaver
2. learning dreamweaver is well worth it!
3. front page has a reputation of being amatuerish for several reasons:
a]used by a lot of one-time office amateurs whose work loks amatuerish, and
b]early versions of fp software deserved this rating - recent versions do not!
4.front page will sometimes (or often) add non-standard/microsoft specific tags and code that bloats the code although you can go to html view and modify it.
all in all, you are at a front page based forum so most of the people here have had good success using fp - i have - but dreamweaver probably represents the "gold standard". In the same vein, while adobe photo is probably the top graphics, many of us have been very successful with the cheaper/powerful paint shop pro.
do you have one or both? fp is cheaper and quicker to learn..and we are here to help

Thanks to each of you for your replies. I have visited your threads and learned more in 60minutes from them
than I have discovered myself in the last 3 years of web development. Funny when I'm out here "all by myself"
it seems there's no place to turn and ask questions. I've had a copy of Dreamweaver but never opened it.
I use FP to do nearly everything... and it's 2000 so probably time to upgrade. This forum is loaded with info
but takes some getting used to. Now I've just opened Dreamweaver and I'm really digging it for how "HELP"ful
it is. I think it seems easier to use than FP and WAY WAY more features... right off the top... I can finally save
all my websites and passwords individually... I still can't believe FP didn't make provision for that basic feature.
I'm not a code grinder, just never got too interested in that, but I do have to go in and correct stuff that gets
put on pages that doesn't belong there.... the nbsp: stuff that shows up constantly and messes with the font
changes and placements... And FP not being able to read pages made in MS Word... that one really had me going.
I thought it was amazing the way Dreamweaver took a MSWord generated page, and made complete sense out of it
and made it useful and compatible and "fixable".
thanks again for all the answers and encourageing me to delve deeper and have a personal look at Dreamweaver.
I never would have installed it were it not for your suggestions. (how do you spell "complacent"?)

It really depends what you are going to use it for....
If you do get into FP, FP 2003 is a lot better than the other releases... by far.

Hey All, FP was the first program I used, the lack of compatibility with free servers turned me over Dreamweaver 4 and I havn't looked back since. I just installed XP Professional and will be looking at Dreamweaver MX2004 shortly.

IMHO i *wouldn't* agree that FP is "much easier to learn than DW". it's certainly more familiar if you haven't touched anything outside of office apps, but then i think that DW is more intuitive e.g. the properties panel, publishing is like ftp, things are generally called what they are not what MS would like to think of them as. though it's good to see Dan (dpf Dan) pointing out that any initial extra effort is well worth it.
Incidentally, although i haven't used FP2003 (i've only 'looked' at the demo, poor IMO that there's no download) it's gratifying that they have <big euphemism>emulated</big euphemism> a load of things that have been in dreamweaver for a while, bit like Macromedia 'borrowing' a few things from adobe.
IMO opinion i would much rather use DW than FP but each to their own and as i say I haven't used FP2003 so can't comment thoroughly. I've been a DW user since version 1 :)
incidentally DW MX2004 has excellent css authoring and css display capabilities though for validating and checking in browsers there is no substitute for using the real things.
