Fixing the Height of Webpages - 6/6/2004 6:10:53
when people are designing sites with 800*600 in mind, how many people actually restrict the height of their content to around 415px? or do people just make sure things like the nav menu fit within that height? and then just let the rest of the content scroll off screen

try to keep the most important stuff above the fold (i.e. where the page 'cuts off' at around 415px) such as naviagtion. if your naviagtion is much longer than this then it is possibly over-complicated anyway!

dave is absolutley correct..you nav must be visible.... other than that, some obbsess over the single page issue and others dont..to me, if the visible content is interesting TO THE VIEWER, he/she will scroll for more

If restricting the height of your web page, you are restricting the amount of content you can display on the page, and it therefore looks horrible to us users who have the larger monitors at higher resolutions.

I use a pc and laptop regularaly on the laptop which runs at 1024x768 I maxamise every window. On my main pc I run at 1600x1200 and tend to use a lot of smaller 800x600 windows tiled around.
