Hi,

Before I launch my new site I would really welcome any comments and/or suggestions to improve it.

It is at Pennyroyal Systems Design

Thanks in advance

First impression the site looks very nice.

Used to be that I'd go to a web site and look at it. These days I go straight to view source. Hmmmm.

Anyway, IMO you have some gaffes on there that need to be sorted and fast.

You are offering a professional web design service. You cannot have a note at the bottom that says "best viewed in Internet Explorer". All that says to me is "the guy can't design sites that work in all browsers". I don't know what the accessibility laws are where you are but over here the act is starting to bite and you'd be leaving yourself and your clients open to a court case. I haven't seen anything on your site that shouldn't work happily in all browsers, you just need to get your code right.

Google Ad Words on your page!!!! Do you want your customers to gaily go trundling off to another company?

Free BBS. Are you mad???! From the text I assume you're giving them the freebie version of a pay board which has restrictions including possible ad pop-ups. Why not charge a small amount and grab the code for one of the open source boards such as phpbb2. Tha't free, involves you in a bit of installation work for which you can charge and presents a much more professional front.

Sorry to be a bit neggy but you're shooting yourself in the foot for a few silly things.

looks ok, but you have a lot of deprecated code (font tags everywhere etc) and no doctype.

Another picky one here

1. The phone numbers. Why not offer just straight international numbers? It will be much easier, and residents in SA will know what number to call anyway

2
quote:

You cannot have a note at the bottom that says "best viewed in Internet Explorer". All that says to me is "the guy can't design sites that work in all browsers".

Ditto

3. I don't like the fact that you have the same content at the bottom of EVERY page. I read it once, I won't read it again, unless I didn't get the point of what it's all about

you have a lot of deprecated code (font tags everywhere etc) and no doctype

It's FP2000, not him. FP2000 isn't up-to-date on the standards etc

but it's *his* responsibility to validate the code, only a bad workperson blames their tools!

That's why I use Notepad and DW - if it's wrong, it's my fault

Tony - Don't bother running it through the validator, you'll kill the server. What I recommend you do, is have a look at converting it over to CSS and Tables

Hi All,

Wow - fantastic response!

I will try and incorporate your ideas pronto - one gets so 'into' a project that you cant 'see the wood for trees' and that's why these critiques are invaluable.

All of your comments are valid and I will do my best to improve the site.

Thanks and regards
