Renaming A Web Problems - 6/8/2004 17:11:28
I have a new web site I am building in FP 2000, still on disk, not yet published. I want to change its name and have done what Help suggests: Gone to Tools, clicked Web Settings, then the General tab. In the Web name box, I changed the web name and clicked okay.

Nothing happens. I also tried clicking Apply and then okay, nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

Hmm, I've never change my webs that way. I didn't know you could (or couldn't in your case). What I've always done is just gone to Windows Explorer and changed the directory name (without FP being open). That seems to work for me okay.

PS - I also just tried your way(the real way) and it worked for me.

<edit> I'm wondering too, if maybe it is a permissions problem on the directory if this doesn't work? </edit>

Brian,

Thanks for the reply. Changing the web name this way is supposed to also change all the links. If you change it as you mentioned with Windows Explorer, I am not sure the links would stay intact?

Interesting that this "new" way worked for you. I have not experience with permissions problems and would not know how to check to see if this is the case.

Perhaps someone else has some experience in changing a web name this way.

Hi,

I don't have a solution but wanted you to know that my 2000 did the same thing. That is it didn't change the web name. I am the administrator for my computer, so I doubt that it's a permission problem.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I tried and tried.

Hmmmm, wouldn't work on my copy of FP2000 either.

Try creating a new empty web with the new name. Import the files from the old web into it and then recalculate hyperlinks.
