I just had to share this with the forum, since several of you have fielded questions from me...

I've been trying to learn css for the past several months. I don't know what happened, but someone finally flipped the little switch of understanding on in my brain, and now I'm css-ing all over the place!!

(Okay, so I'm really, really proud of myself right now!):):):)

That's usually how it works.

It's referred to around here as an "Aha!" moment...

Congrats! Now you'll wonder how you ever got along without CSS.

:)

I'm already wondering that.

As well as trying to figure out why a hard drive will only crash when you don't have it backed up.:)

I had an AHA! moment many years ago when subscripting finally made sense after months of just swiping existing code and modifying it.

Doncha just love it! :)

You'll get it. Just follow what the validator is telling you to do. Take it a step at a time.

I'm starting right now to learn CSS. Now that you have fought your way to enlightenment...what advice can you offer to shorten the learning curve for me.?

Hi Crime Doctor, welcome to the family.

Advice? Patience, that is first and foremost.:)

Don't use IE for testing your pages, too forgiving.

VALIDATE!! xhtml/html/and css!! another important thing to always remember.

Also in this section at the top are css links. There are several for tutorials in there. I suggest that you follow some if not all of the links and posts in there, in fact, HERE is where you will find the information.

Also, come here anytime you need a hand and someone will be able to help you out. If we don't know the answer, then we try to find a link to help you out.

once again Welcome!!!!

<edit>btw, anything worth learning takes lots of study to get it right. CSS isn't something that you can learn by taking shortcuts. :)</edit>

Uhmmmm, Dan, that is called learning :) But then, I guess that also depends on which threads you are taking about.

Seriously though Crime Doc, there is a wealth of information to be found with in this forum. And there are many people who are very willing to give of their time to help you out if you need it.

I know it's called learning, but I don't class it as sitting down to learn something, as I just casually browsed through the threads. I didn't actually read any tutorials as such:)

Welcome, Crime Doc!

The best advice I can give is to find a CSS page you like, then dissect the page. That's actually how I started learning it. Check out some of the designs at CSS Zen Garden. You can look at the CSS to see how they did things.

Then once you run into a wall, come in here and ask for a little guidance. (Deb is one of the best to ask on this, IMO!)
