So Close!!! - 6/13/2004 10:59:43
Hi All

Template - http://www.giomanach.com/client/TNM
Stylesheet - http://www.giomanach.com/client/TNM/01.css

Now here's the problem....

Designed in Mozzy Firefox, as you do, And when I checked it in IE and Opera (NN doesn't seem to wanna work at all at the mo here), it's ever so slightly out of whack.

Can someone please tell me why I get so close and the browsers go and mess it up for me?

Cheers

Dan

If your on about the links overlapping with t'other green bit, it's supposed to. It displayes properly here, in Firefox, its the rest that won't play nicely....

fix your validation errors first then see if it's still like that.

There's only six HTML errors in the coding, the CSS is fine.

1. I haven't set Character Encoding
2. The odd use of deprecated tags.

And that's it, nothing that should affect it. The problem is with the CSS, not the HTML.

I am sure, cos if I use all deprecated tags it works fine. It's when I use CSS to fully format the HTML doc is goes all funny. I suppose I'll just have to make it IE friendly....

RE: So Close!!! - 6/13/2004 16:35:51
how about splitting the row above "Page Content" into 3 cells and then it might line up.
and the same for the row below the main content.

oh it's 'broken' in opera 7.51 as well. and in IE and op 7.51 the right column text is centre aligned but in firefox it's left aligned?! have you tried setting a class/id on the td to text-align:centre | left? or on the individual classes within thetable cell?

I guess you know you're using pixels, and it's missing a quarter of the page at 800x600

I kno I need to lose 200px to make it 800x600 friendly. Dunno bout chopping it up tho.... I;m more bothered about making ends meet, rather than disjointing them.

I'll give it a go, but I doubt it will work....

also... not that you're asking but thought i might also mention Ravie is unlikely to be on many systems, at least i assume it doesn't come with XP??

Well, it's on my system, and client insists on using it....... I might just convert that to a graphic too...

i would still fix those errors, even if it's just to rule them out: the percentage 'error' (i.e. not put in quotes) and the missing closing table tag *may* be enough to cause trouble. it will probably still be the same but until you fix them you can't be sure.

re: ravie - well if it ships with XP and the client is aware that some people (i.e. poor buggers like me still on 98, unix, mac users, users who streamline their font usage) might not see it then it would be ok, but you might be better using a graphic anyway if it's 'vitally important'

It's now all Valid HTML 4.01 and CSS 2.1 and IE + Opera still throws a wobbler, looks like it't time to rethink the backgrounds etc....Any ideas?

other than splitting the above and below rows into 3 so all the columns macth up i'm not sure why it doesn't work as it is... otherwise you could go for a simple border using background colours/image on the cells and css borders

No chance of that happening lol. Client wants it freshening up, but they want it to look like the original....

I'll have to perform surgery on the images first....

Hi, what was meant to be the problem? You know the left nav bar, do you have to keep the spaces between the cells? Might look better if you didn't and on hover the whole background changes colour? I'd also maybe put the 'Contact Us | Links | privacy Policy' and Copyright block outside of the table? That way it's dislocated from the main part. Just my point of view! Be careful with a background image, with a name like naked monkey around...

Yes I do have to keep the space between the links, and they aren't in cells!!! It's all CSS formatted:)

They layout is right, it's just IE and Opera like to bodge it up for me...... still haven't alterd them images lol

Not even a bit of background colour? Maybe on the links to compliment the nav? Guess not!

Aarrgh Comic Sans! :) I think the layout and everything works well, it's not actually too bad a site in a way. Anyway I won't interrupt any more! Mark
