Thanks for the help in advance

cecilc -> RE: text going crazy.... (6/14/2004 9:19:23)

I took a look, but ....

I can't see anything that looks like it's out of place. So I'm guessing that's a good thing .... ??

Colin,

Viewing in IE6 confirms you've got problems alright.

Source code shows: </td></tr><!--msnavigation--></table><!--msnavigation--><table dir="ltr" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tr><td valign="top" width="1%">. Don't understand coding well enough to do anything but guess it relates to table arguments.

Hopefully someone else can pick it up from here.

I still see it, in both Mozilla and Avant browsers....I swear I'm going to have a breakdown before I get this site even close to finished, im not a webmaster, what was I thinking? I'm a broadband/ network hack who wants to help people...too bad...doubt they let you near wires in the mental institution

dpf -> RE: text going crazy.... (6/14/2004 16:32:08)

here is your problem; you end your table where the navigation is and then add your text as <p> so naturally it comes under the table.

if you want to make the space to the right available for the text, <td rowspan="x"> where x = # of celss (<td>'s that you are spanning

If that's the case, there are plenty of web designers here that I'm sure would take it off of you hands, for what price... I don't know, but if you feel this is not your forté let someone else take over.

I'd offer, but I'm busy with clients at the mo, but if you wish, drop me an email, and I'll see what I can do

Giomanach -> RE: text going crazy.... (6/14/2004 16:54:21)

lol, well, I'm 18, and I do all the electrics round the house, from the light switches to the bits inside my puter, and I still do web design.....what am I doing wrong? lol

wrong? knowing all that at 18..or anyage is doing something right!

BroadbandMan -> RE: text going crazy.... (6/14/2004 17:18:10)

The wires comment (should have said cables I suppose) was in reference to my networking background, hence I was saying that I could go back to doing that ~ but I'd be in the mental hospital before I then due the the web design fiasco. Glad I could be the brunt of jokes for everyone today. After three hours sleep in the last 3 days forgive me if I find little humor in your posts about my predicament

maybe you didnt notice that our jokes were preceded by some helpful suggestions? Maybe you do need some sleep.

dpf -> RE: text going crazy.... (6/15/2004 9:35:25)

broadbandman:
you seemed very frustrated yesterday... we didnt mean to upset you with our joking - we all come to give and receive assistance so I hope this doesnt drive you away. I gave you some suggestions ( to which you did not respond) and upon re-reading them, I now think that I phrased them too much in terms of code and not enough in terms of FP. If you are still stuck, come back and we will be glad to help.

BroadbandMan -> RE: text going crazy.... (6/15/2004 12:30:48)

I appreciate your last post Dan, and yes, I did not understand any of what you posted in regards to my problems. As you can see it's still there on my page and I'm still in the land of cyberelves. I was extremely irritable yesterday and for that I am sorry. I feel like I should just start over, even though I don't really have the time. I have contracts with companies that require I sell so much of their services per month, that is why I am so upset. I quit my job to undertake this endeavor and things have been rough so far to say the least. Believe me I'd pay for someone else to make these sites (I have two at this time) but I can't afford it and still eat. Basically the new version of this site is going to have better graphics and the link bars on the right . I'm still having the problems I had posted above tho. I really want to learn HTML but I need to do it over time, perhaps you could just explain it to me like I'm 4 years old for now, until I get the time to read multiple HTML books. I'm embarrassed to say right now my only reference guides are HTML for dummies (3rd edition) and FP2002 for dummies. I find these books to be of little use to me for the issues at hand.

Any assistance provided will bring years of good karma ~ The cyberelves have told me so.

dpf -> RE: text going crazy.... (6/15/2004 12:42:37)

welcome back colin!!!!
but..you are not permitted to be embarrassed on this forum!!!! not allowed..ever...we all started as newbies and all have much to learn.

aside from the code that I posted, the lesson of it is that your text is not resting on the right side of your table as i think you envision it..it is residing beneath the completed table - make sense.

the solution is simple. but..im rusty on front page so others may need to help. go back to your fp table..are there "cells" to the right of your nav? if not, you right click ( i thnk) to add column/cell..... then you sort of cut and paste your text from beneath the table into that.

you are using front page arent you?

i know that didnt do a good job but we will get there.
btw, skipping sleep isnt good..lol

Nancy -> RE: text going crazy.... (6/15/2004 12:50:56)

Colin,

You might want to consider buying one of the templates that Thomas offers here. They have the bugs worked out, and basically all you need to do is add your content.

http://www.outfront.net/frontpage-web-templates.htm

They have some stock templates, or can customize it for you at very reasonable rates. It should allow you to get your site finished up with little hassle, and little expense.

Nancy

dpf -> RE: text going crazy.... (6/15/2004 12:53:43)

thats excellent advice from nancy,colin...tho we all will help you if you cant but for a few bucks...its all predone...
when i started, i self taught some bsic html and then bought fp..but..templates got me thru the first few years..i went back and learned html thoroughly but even now...i often use templates..the old "why reinvent the wheel/"

dpf -> RE: text going crazy.... (6/15/2004 12:56:42)

the first thing i would do if i were you would be open fp and open notepad..copy paste the misplaced text into notepad and then delete it from fp...... then create a new column in th e table..you have "nested" tables which is tables inside tables.... might have to start a new simpler page..dont give up!!!!!!

<rarely but sometimes, cyberelves will help when you least expect it..lol>

BroadbandMan -> RE: text going crazy.... (6/15/2004 13:01:13)

yes I am using Front Page 2002, but I have invested in Dreamweaver but it scared the lights out of me when I opened it (not to mention the computer I do most of my designing on dosn't handle the program to well) I think I understand your answer in the last post. But now what I don't understand is..I don't have a table on the page in reference just two banners and some text..how could a table be messing it up if it's not there? The only table I know about is the one at the top thats universal to all my pages...if you look at the home page it's not a problem, so now I am really confused

dpf -> RE: text going crazy.... (6/15/2004 13:03:51)

colin: all of a sudden, your homepage is fine!!!!! what did you do there??

BroadbandMan -> RE: text going crazy.... (6/15/2004 13:21:13)

nothing..it's been that way since the beginning of all this.

BroadbandMan -> RE: text going crazy.... (6/15/2004 13:23:39)

after publishing someone told me to "justify" everything text wise so I did that and then I placed a banner on the webhosting area; added the correct click through script for identification. When I got up to start working again thats when I noticed the issue with the banners and all pages that have forms to contact me or order service

dpf -> RE: text going crazy.... (6/15/2004 13:27:45)

colin..not sure where i looked before but as i look now..you arent far off!!! home page looks fine (agree?)..2nd page, service providors seems fine (agree?) 3rd page broadband is where text is under table and the other pages seem fine or no content yet.

if that is it, load all 3 pages into fp and go back and forth adn lok at the difference..not in html , just in fp,,,,from there i think you will see how to fix the broadband page

BroadbandMan -> RE: text going crazy.... (6/15/2004 14:07:52)

that sounds good in theory but I have already changed everything in FP and saved over the site in trying to find an answer in my haste. Desperate times require desperate measures I suppose

BroadbandMan -> RE: text going crazy.... (6/15/2004 16:50:36)

I think I got it fixed guys, I revealed tags and started deleting anything that I saw wasn't links to anything important ~ not exactly an educated way to go about it but it seems to be working

gotta laugh this one off I guess

Dan I can't thank you enough for hanging in there on this one with me you deserve to have your rating go up just for preservering my roller coaster ride on this problem. Thanks a million man
