CSS and Nav Bars - 6/17/2004 16:51:04
Here I was so proud of myself last week for finally catching on to CSS, and now I've slammed face first into a brick wall!

Say I have an an include file that includes 3 other files (yes, there's a reason for it). Two of the included files are simple hyperlink lists and display perfectly. The third is supposed to be a nav bar in vertical list form. It doesn't display right, even though I'm positive I have it formatted just like my other two lists.

Why is the nav bar refusing to take on all of the CSS characteristics?

Problem page - see left menu

Ah ha. It's the old footer not moving down the page problem.

Look Here and Here

Are you talking about the part of the nav bar that says topics?

I'm sure you have validated right?

Also, I looked at your css, I think maybe this might be your problem?

#nameplate {
background:rgb(202,202,172) url('../images/nameplate.jpg') no-repeat;

Try removing the ' ' from the url and see if it helps.

Below are two links regarding the background image.

Ah, now looked at it in IE and Deb is correct.

In Firefox..... different kettle of fish. There it's the footer problem.

Yes, I was talking about the Topics section. Everything else seems to work just fine. For some reason that won't format like the Services and Quick Links sections do.

This section isn't giving me any trouble. That's just the Iowa State nameplate at the top of the page.

There is something very odd going on in these forums the links I posted above were for css box models. They worked last night I checked them but today they're pointing to glish and htaccess which is a link I posted for another message.

I keep getting insufficient permission messages when I try to post replies as well.

The links should be

http://www.benmeadowcroft.com/webdev/csstemplates/template1.html
http://www.csscreator.com/version2/pagelayout.php

Posted the above, hit submit and was logged out and appearing as guest!!!!!???

I have to agree with you Jaybee, After my post yesterday, there was nothign, now I check in today, and i see that your posts are ahead of the one that i posted!

Seems as though some haunting is going on here:)

(Sorry this is off topic, but due to the fact that the posts aren't in order, I felt that i needed to post this.)

slbergh,
I know this might sound strange, but sometimes if something isn't styled correctly it does interfere with the rest of the styles. Try changing it if you have not, and see what happens.

I did some searchign but could not find anythign online that was like what is happening to you. If I come across anythign I'll let you know.

Deb -- I removed the ' marks and it's still doing it. I know it's got to be something with the FP include itself. Is there any way to "tweak" an FP include/nav bar without totally screwing it up?

I'm sorry I can't help you out on this one. i do the css via hand coding. as well as the xhtml right now. I think maybe someone will be able to tell you about this though. If no one answers and this post goes down a few I'll bump it up so that it is ahead of the game so that you get answers on it.

Also, try posting the question re fp in the advanced web section.there might be someone in there that is familar with this problem.

I'm getting closer to figuring it out. I've solved the spacing issue between menu items, but I can't seem to get the divider under each item.
