Use Google Search with Adsense - 6/18/2004 10:07:47
Google has now added Search to Adsense. You can sign up within your Adsense control panel and start driving people away from your site! Actually, you can add your logo to the top of the search results page and receive a share of any ads the user may click. Ads are in the top 'premium' position and the bottom - like Yahoo. Here is an overview: https://www.google.com/adsense/ws-overview I wonder if this will increase or decrease site income?

Day 1's results were not thrilling for WebSearch, but I can think of a lot of ways to work with this. One ominous issue is a term that goes undefined in all of the Google documentation that I can find. " fees applicable to WebSearch" In one place, the terms and conditions document states that WebSearch is free. In another, it states that "Revenue from WebSearch ads may be offset at the end of the month by fees applicable to WebSearch. " Google hasn't done me wrong yet. I'm willing to trust them on this, but it does seem odd. I think it's a way for them to cover themselves if the success of this program deviates quite a bit (good or bad) from projections. I have sent them a support question asking for clarification. t

From what I have read, Google may charge some accounts for using the service each month. It is supposed to be no more than what you made - so you can't lose money. If you have a high usage rate, but a very low click through rate on the ads - you are a candidate to have a fee. Free with a fee.

That makes sense. Day 2 is looking better. Nothing to write home about, but possibly worth the screen real estate. t

Here was Google's reply to my question about websearch billing although I've decided not to go with web search on my site. The response was insignificant. "The WebSearch fees that are referenced in the AdSense Terms and Conditions will not be applied to all publishers. Google incurs a cost for each search that is performed through WebSearch, and generally we cover this cost through our portion of the earnings from advertiser clicks. However, publishers with very high numbers of searches in relation to their revenue may have an amount deducted from their final WebSearch earnings. We expect the number of publishers to be impacted by this to be very small. The WebSearch fees will never be greater than the publisher's WebSearch earnings, so no publisher will owe Google at the end of the month as a result of these fees. Earnings from AdSense for content clicks will not be affected. The adjustment will take place at the end of each month, when earnings are calculated." t

OK, so far I have made less than what it would cost to buy a pack of gum from the WebSearch. BUT, my adsense income has gone up 20%. Maybe visitors are using the search and then coming back?

I too noticed my adsense income go up when I hed web search. I was wondering if Google gave me a bigger cut for having it on the pages? Total clicks didn't rise -- just income. Income was down on Saturday versus other Saturdays even with the search, however. t
