FTP access on IIS 5.1/XP Pro - 6/22/2004 16:07:45
Hey all. I am a newbie in this area, so please forgive me if my explanation is clumsy. :)

I have a desktop running XP Pro and IIS 5.1. I'm trying to set the FTP access to deny access to anyone not on my network (all of thois is done remotely, the computer is logging data in another city). When I go into the "FTP Properties" the option to "deny access" is greyed out. Does anyone know how to make this option clickable?

I appreciate any assistance you may be able to provide.

Humbly,
Heather R.

Disable the Anon Access feature. That will mean you have to set up password protected accounts in order for users to access the FTP root

I want to keep Anon Access, but only from a certain IP address - just like it can be done in 2000 Server and 2003 server.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your time.

I'll have to have a look see on IIS at home....May require the installation of additional software..... Or maybe even just configuring your firewall....

From my research last night, it appears that IIS won't allow it. I'm so nervous having this huge gaping security hole, I'm already building a backup system just in case.

I don't have much reign on configuration, because all of the data logging systems have to be more or less equal (so that as we add new instrument suites, it's pretty much copy and paste code). My network administrator said that I might just have to leave that hole - aaacckkk. I'm not completely giving up, I'm still digging around for a fix.

Thanks so much for your help, Giomanach.

Cheers,
HRiddles
