problems previewing pages in IE6 - 6/24/2004 13:43:59
When I try to preview my FP pages in IE6, I can't see the hover buttons I put in the shared left border. I can see dark rectangles (but no text) where the buttons should be. I get an error messge along the lines of 'java applet failed'. Also, I can't see the .png file I put in the shared top border. In fact, the border doesn't seem to be there at all. Will the shared borders appear OK when I publish the site (i.e., this is this just a problem on my computer) or is something more fundamental going wrong? I'd be very grateful for any advice. Thanks.

<<Will the shared borders appear OK when I publish the site (i.e., this is this just a problem on my computer) or is something more fundamental going wrong?>> Steve, Preview in Browser will give you a true pre-publish look at your design work in progress, indicating your problems are close to home probably in the shared borders area. If you'll post a URL, others, I'm sure, will chip in.

Java is enabled in my browser, so it isn't that unfortunately. The pages are not yet published (they're still on my hard drive) Is there a way I can share them with all you experts out there?

Tried that but still no luck. The error message is now 'applet hover notinited'. Does this copy of the Java console mean anything to anyone? Caused by: java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\Documents and Settings\Steve Watson\My Documents\new folder 23 June\fphover\class.class (The system cannot find the path specified) at java.io.FileInputStream.open(Native Method) at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(Unknown Source) at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(Unknown Source) at sun.net.www.protocol.file.FileURLConnection.connect(Unknown Source) at sun.net.www.protocol.file.FileURLConnection.getInputStream(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.getBytes(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.access$100(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) ... 10 more

java.io.FileNotFoundException Dont know much about java but it seems like the applet is looking for a class file... is the .class file of the applet in the same directory? Does the class name in the .html file match the class name in the .java file? Does this "C:\Documents and Settings\Steve Watson\My Documents\new folder 23 June\fphover\class.class" still exist or part of your Web folder?

Edmund/all problem sorted. java was looking for the .class file in the folder I was working in when I created the hover buttons. That folder no longer exists. I simply recreated the buttons and they now work. Thanks for all the advice.

Does the class name in the .html file match the class name in the .java file? java creates the .class file when you compile the .java file. It only reads the .class file - the .java is your source code and the .class is the object or byte code
