Can't access all files with SmartFTP - 6/25/2004 11:12:22
Hi,

When FTPing into a site with SmartFTP, I only see the index.html and images files. Why?

The total site files must be on the server because the complete site is online but I don't see them all when ftping into it.

Therefore I can't access them to make changes.

The settings are set to "show all files"

I have had no problem FTPing into other sites.

Anyone have a solution for this?

Thank you

Herman

Hi Herman, to be honest I can't really help much! Have you tried other FTP software? Are you sure you're looking at the server file view and not your local view? (I know what's a poor suggestion!) Do you have the original files on disk at home/work? If so, why don't you just upload them into that directory and see what SmartFTP has to say? i.e. overwrite etc. Mark

you say you can see the index files but not the others...and yet everything works... open index....do view/source and check the path of those files..thats you clue as to where they reside

And you're 100% sure this is the same site!!? Guess you could view source of all of the pages, save them with a .htm format and start rebuilding the structure from scratch. Save all the images, styles etc. as well. Mark

perhaps what you see is all that is really there

I use CuteFTP and Terrapin, that's just a basic FTP client. Used AceFTP at school and that was quite good. As ellipisces said do you have a URL? Mark

I use Filezilla without a hitch......I think ellipisces is right, what if that is all that's really there, and the rest is on another server?

Thanks for trying to help...I even tried different computers and FTP software (ie WS_FTP Pro) and got the same.

Here's an image of what I get:

www.isitebuild.com/ftpimage.htm

URL: besthomesnetwork.com

The person operating the server has no problems seeing all files.

Not me.

Any other solutions you can think of?

Herman

Maybe the files are in the www folder and public_html is an alias of some kind? I'm sure you'll have checked that though, Mark

He's on a linux server (public_html tells me that), Mark maybe right, have you uploaded the files to www instead of public_html?

Dan

I had a site with SSL capabilities too, and that folder simply linked to a www one. Try right-clicking on the www folder and seeing if it links to public_html.

RESOLVED - thank you all very much! - 6/29/2004 15:37:39
RESOLVED - host tech support had sent me duplicate user names for 2 sites - one worked, the other did not.

After telling me to try different FTP software (which I did) , I tried other computers, and asking you'll here - still no luck.

Sent him same image as sent above...he suddenly saw the duplicate user name as used on another site.

Thanks for all your patient replies - truely appreciated:-)
