Assuming that I've not got it completely wrong and pdf is an acrobat reader file, read on:

I'm not sure how you would change it back, but you can just copy and paste from acrobat reader to word to edit it. If you create the file, just re-create it using whatever you used to create it in the first place.

That's all I can think of.

Hope it helps.

No it doesn't... it's someone else PDF file and I need to turn it to word to edit it....

I'm a teacher and I wanted to use the copy of the handbook they have on the website adapted to my students... instead of typing some 50 pages, I want to change it to text so I can edit it....

Does that better clarify my situation?

As far as I am aware, unless you have Adobe Acrobat - not the Reader, you cannot do this and even then the publication author may have restricted permissions in the pdf regarding changing the document.

If you do a search for 'pdf to word free' on SE's you will find a lot of sources like,

http://www.pdfpdf.com/pdfconverter.html

I don't have any experience of any of them, though.

There is another possibility - Scansoft have a product called pdf converter professional 2 which (they claim) not ony allows you to make pdf files from any windows application but also converts any pdf file into a MS word file for editing. They keep mailing me about it, last price was $59.95.

You don't have to have adobe acrobat to make pdf files. For over a year now I have been using 602pro Print Pack software which only cost about$20 but enables me to make quality pdf files from any windows application.

Donkey,

The name of the ScanSoft program is PaperPort Deluxe, v9. Works just fine!

DukeLOrange,

I can't put Adobe Reader to Word to the test since I have the full version. However, since this 50 page document is on internet, why not screen copy/paste the document to Word a page-at-a time? Much easier and less time consuming than straight typing I should think.

Actually this is easier than PDF to Word and can be done without Adobe free according to:
