personal/work hybrid - 7/6/2004 2:26:22
this is a site that i've been doing for a friend/client for while now and thought maybe i should be brave and submit it for a review. they're pretty happy with it, and to be honest i am as well, but it's good to have some fresh eyes! they do have some cds to sell/vids but that isn't the main purpose of the site

http://www.deplicque.net/ (yes i know, it's a splash page isn't it!)

be *at least* as critical as i am with you lot...

Dave

Lose the splash page, it's far too big, even at 1280x1024.

The rest, AFAICS is fine

Dan

actually replacing the image on the splash page but i'm waiting for the host to get their finger out and fix my ftp problems. I can ftp but see no new changes on the site... i think they've been tinkering with something

The pink works on this site, so I don' mind it as much. Plus it's not the kind of pink i normally get terrorised with :)

Looks great, though I really dislike the color scheme myself - but that's personal pref. Sorry Jaybee, I'd like it better without the pink.

Note: he needs to clear up the urban legend he's promoting in his "Strange Fruit" article. The word "picnic" did not originate the way the website says it did...i'ts actaully of French origin and dates back a few hundred years.

I like the layout and navigation. There are a couple of longer than normal scroll downs, like on the History page, but I don't know what to suggest as an alternative for that.

The color scheme doesn't work for me. I'm a fan of purples and it's sometimes difficult to work them into a scheme. In fact peppergal set me straight on this site to get my purples right a while back HORSE

I like the richness of the purple color in the top banner. The background just doesn't seem to compliment it.

It's a nice easy read, with just the right amount of white space to make it easy on the eyes (at 1024 res).

Personally I love purples and blues - and for this particular site I would rather see the purple than the pink. Pink implies softness, femininity - purple would be more royal (after all, he represents the King of Kings) :)

Anyway - it might work for a storefront or even a women's ministry page. This guy just doesn't strike me as a pink kind of guy.

Love the layout and like the teal blue colors and like Minix I like that top banner. Perhaps you can make make the pink textured background mimic the teal blues rather than the pinks and let the banner stand alone? Or a how about gray?

i think maybe the pink will have to stay, if only for dan's sake ;)
i was thinking of doing a 'pick your own' colour scheme ala spoono (http://www.spoono.com/ pick a flavor!) but it would mean redesigning so much and i haven't got time.

Well, dip me in s**t and roll me in breadcrumbs I post twice in this thread, and it turns into whether we should keep the pink 'cos of me.

Hmmmm.....do what you will, I don't care!

Hi!
I think the pink could be a lot worse than it is on this site. It is not that bad! Otherwise, the site has a clean layout, and a consistent design, jus the way I like it. And sometimes, you just have to give in to the clients desires.
