web server supports IIS - 7/9/2004 5:26:49
Hello, Needing to know: If my web host supports IIS, do I need it installed on my computer? I recently ordered this computer and had it custom built. It came with a lot of nice things and power, but it didn't come with IIS installed and I didn't know to ask for it. What can I do? Or do I need to do anything? Thanks all Pesty

iPowerWeb use Unix servers, therefore suggesting Apache server, as Unix does not support IIS. Do you understand what I mean by Server Side Technologies? I do not mean the hardware/software your host uses, I mean ASP/PHP/CGI/PERL/FPSE. Your servers support PHP/MySQL and FPSE, therefore, NO ASP can be used. Do you want to test your scripts locally before uploading to your server, or would you rather use the host as testing and final? Dan

Wow! I am really confused now! Before I signed up with ipowerweb.com I looked through the faq's and I'm sure they said they accept asp and supports IIS. I think what is confusing me at this point, is that they support FP extensions and FP2000-2003. But at the same time the said they don't support Sql. Are they ripping people off, or am I mis-reading what they mean? Your right, all I want is to be able to test the site before uploading for good. Thanks Giomanach! Pesty

Actually Ipowerweb has released a windows side to their overcrowded servers. Are they ripping people off - Actually, they support is halfway decent. If you are looking for a cheap host with decent support, and a lot of space, I would suggest ipowerweb. or am I mis-reading what they mean? - I think Dan was not aware of the new windows servers at IPW. Mainly, you do not need to install anything on your computer to be on a windows or unix server.

Apparently they have linux and windows platform. I ended up calling the techs and they said I can use asp but I would have to change over to windows platform. And the tech was very nice and knew all the right answers. Pesty
