Installing FP 2K under Win XP w/IIS not PWS - 7/14/2004 16:22:23
Hi everyone. My first post here. I'm not sure my question belongs here but here it is.

I've been using FrontPage 2000 with Win 98SE. My FrontPage 2000 is an upgrade from FrontPage 98. As many of you know, installing FrontPage 98 with Win 9x installs Personal Web Server (PWS).

I now have Win XP Pro now and want to install FrontPage 2000 under Win XP. I'm under the impression PWS does not work under Win XP. I'm also under the impression I need to install IIS as an additional component of Win XP and that IIS would basically take the place of PWS under Win 98SE.

To install FrontPage 2000 from my upgrade CD, FrontPage 98 must be present. However, I'm thinking I should not simply do a normal installation of FrontPage 98 because I do not want PWS installed under Win XP, and I don't know exactly what will happen if I start an installation of FrontPage 98.

So, here's what I think might be the right way to set up FrontPage 2000 under Win XP. First, install the IIS component of Win XP. Then, start a FrontPage 2000 installation rather than first starting a FrontPage 98 installation. FrontPage 2000 will attempt to verify that I am entitled to an upgrade and, if it does not see a previous version of FrontPage installed, I can remove the FrontPage 2000 CD, put my FrontPage 98 CD in the CD drive so that FrontPage 2000 can verify from that, then put my FrontPage 2000 CD back in the CD drive and complete the installation of FrontPage 2000.
This would prevent the installation of PWS from occuring.

Any comments?

Also, if I want to install Image Composer, which in on the FrontPage 98 CD but, as I recall, not on the FrontPage 2000 CD, I can install that separately.
