Brandon -> what do you think? (7/15/2004 10:21:38)

First off I didn't make this site...my company hired a local web designing group to make it. Personally I think it’s a little boring, and the group says there really busy and they can't even fix a broken link for two weeks….. It seems like to me we are not getting what we paid for…..just wanted to know what you guys thought? www.apom.com

Gene -> RE: what do you think? (7/15/2004 10:46:34)

A little bland. Hope you did not pay much for the site build.

If you can get the username and password, I can fix the link for you fairly quickly.

d a v e -> RE: what do you think? (7/15/2004 10:52:03)

it's ok. I like the colour scheme but the header/logo is too small! huh frames and font tags and no doctype? too busy to update a couple of links? what kind of web company are they?!!

the text size could be a wee bit bigger as well considering the site seems aimed squarely at the over 40+'s!

dpf -> RE: what do you think? (7/15/2004 11:50:54)

I think it is horrible...horrible! The home page says not a word about the hospital, the site...lazy lazy.
Lately, I do a lot more work contracting to update/maintain existing sites than I do creating new ones and I notice so many "pro" developers using (ugh) frames. I could be wrong but I am convinced many do it toe hide their precious work so no one will see their code ( get real). anyway, this site sucks - iot sodesnt do a thing. we see sites on here from rank amatuers that are sometimes quite bad but when they are, its usually overkill - the "newbies" show tone of enthusiasm and often just need a little toneing down. this site looks like it was created by someone bored still with their occupation.

You know, Ive never been this opinionated about a "site critique" before - but this one just rubs me the wrong way. They were hired by a hospital (!) - thats a major presence in town..and on the net.... geesh people get cured there..show some enthusiasm.

tterrifc -> RE: what do you think? (7/15/2004 13:05:45)

Additionally, most of the images are terrible.

dpf -> RE: what do you think? (7/15/2004 14:06:26)

hospitals have wonderful, skilled employees, incredible equipment ( I know, I went for a CAT scan this morning) dozens of services, successes, needs (money, volunteers) - a huge story to be told!

Brandon -> RE: what do you think? (7/15/2004 14:29:55)

The site was supposed to tell people about Allied...you know who they are and what they do.....I just think its doing a poor job. Its really a group of physicians that got together and formed this company..... to take care of their billing, HR, IT, and supply a surgery center that the doc's could use.....and that you should go to these physicians and know they will take good care of you...but myself after going to this site I don't get that feeling. For a professional company doing this site I would have expected more.....Like no purple boxes for pictures on some of the practices sites....The reason I put this on here is because my IT director told me to try and get some feed back of our site.....and see if we need hire someone new to redo....and how we would change it....I want to thank dpf for being so truthful...I needed some good input....

dpf -> RE: what do you think? (7/15/2004 14:31:45)

you are welcome

jaybee -> RE: what do you think? (7/15/2004 15:11:51)

Dan beat me to it.

It's an OKish site but I was going to ask how much you paid for it. If it was loads then I'm way undercharging. That site would be a morning's work at most.... OK, maybe a day with plenty of coffee breaks.

As for 2 weeks to fix a link.... get real.

Not necessarily although in some cases you may be right.

If you check the code for my site you'll get frames. Not trying to hide anything. Didn't even develop using frames. My domain is masked and they do it by putting it in a frameset.

I'm looking into ways of breaking out of the frames without losing the masking. Don't think it's possible. It is unfortunately a problem with co.uk. Info and com I can change the DNS myself but co.uk I have to redirect from the domain control panel.

Giomanach -> RE: what do you think? (7/15/2004 15:58:13)

Bran

You're designers have been a bit more lazy than everyone here suspects. You have one ASP program for the whole site! A General lack of SEO....not valid HTML....lack of CSS........I formaly request permission to kick A** here....lol

T'other Dans points are everything in a nut shell. Everyone here knows....my worst sites have a far better layout...and are more use friendly.....I mean...sheesh, if that's done by pros..............I'm George Bush....and that I ain't.

Sorry for the rant, but paying for that??? I wouldn't even give it away lol

Dan

PS - I'm tied up at the mo with projects.....would love to...but someone else needs a chance at stealing work from here[:)]

jaybee -> RE: what do you think? (7/15/2004 18:55:54)

Sorry, not me. Just had another one come in so that's 5 sites and a database underway.

Now, I wonder if I can do the whole lot with Word and Excel? [;)]

caz -> RE: what do you think? (7/15/2004 21:55:31)

Something really strange about this. It appears to have been constructed in Visual Studio and you're right Dan, the html does not validate, but the CSS does!

The pages are littered with spacer gifs, which cause lack of alt tags warnings, but more than that a body tag was misplaced in the head and there is much use of unknown tags. Must be proprietry stuff from VS. Three fonts used on one page - one of them being "Times" as well as TNR and Arial.

I didn't bother with usability checks because I can see it won't pass.
I would call it a cowboy job.

It doesn't pass as a web site..never mind accessible

A cowboy job would have been better...........lucifer....you been having a go at websites again??? Damn Satan.....[:D]

Dan

Not true. It does pass as a web site. It's there, you can see it. The links work. (mostly)

OK, so it's not what you would expect from a professional team and there are a lot of things wrong with it but it is a web site nonetheless. As for validating..... go pick 10 sites at random and see how many do.

Those of us on here are, or should be, more than aware of the accessibility laws but many companies and designers aren't.

Fact is, it's going to take some time, probably never, before all sites on the web will pass muster with your vastly high standards my dears. [;)]

I think that bran0923 was looking for ammunition to give to his IT director and I really enjoyed being thorough and honest for him.

Yes, it's a website because it's there, but has the client been well served by the designers. I think not.
They will also have to take into account US accessibilty legislation, or face prosecution sometime in the future - especially given the nature of the sector they are in.

d a v e -> RE: what do you think? (7/16/2004 10:58:11)

it would be interesting to know what they paid for it.

Carol

You are quite correct. I was answering Dan's statement that it wasn't a web site.

dpf -> RE: what do you think? (7/16/2004 11:15:32)

I dont wish to place the link publicly but I know a site that is not much better for which the customer paid $6000.00 USD!!!!!

Giomanach -> RE: what do you think? (7/16/2004 11:16:45)

I wasn't saying it wasn't a website in the literal sense....I was meaning it doesn't deserve to be a web...should have put it in better context[&:]

But you do have to admit...it's not worth paying for something as bad as that though

Daniel? where is the Please????

Peppergal -> RE: what do you think? (7/16/2004 13:48:23)

My I see it too? I have a thing for websites that suck.

There used to be a thread here in the lounge where people were posting bad websites until someone (rightfully so) decided that it wasn't really nice or appropriate for this forum. People coming here to seek help would be afraid of asking for help, in fear that their site would make it to the "bad website" thread.

I have a folder in my bookmarks of "bad websites" for comic relief as well as "awesome websites" for inspiration.

dpf -> RE: what do you think? (7/16/2004 13:50:37)

of course..ill pm..the reason i dont post publicly is because I respect the business owner who got "taken".. it isnt the worst site- just so lacking in light of the fee.

Peppergal -> RE: what do you think? (7/16/2004 14:15:10)

thanks.. it is a nice looking site, but holy moly...$6000! Shoot!

Giomanach -> RE: what do you think? (7/16/2004 15:54:46)

Ummm, $6000 for that? Umm....it's a decent layout etc...but $6000.............Anyone seen Catch Me If You Can?.....Same Principal....just not with checks

That's daylight robbery!!!
