The Myth of the "free" directory and search e... - 7/16/2004 0:26:21
I've about made myself insane looking for any kind of collection or list that exists of the mythical free directories and search engines. Every time I attempt a search for these mythical creatures I get fooled and taken off track by some fake free bait and switch seo "guru". Obviously being a small business owner I don't have the time to hunt through bogus search listings for days at a time. I realize at some point I'm going to have to pay for inclusion for some engines. Only problem is my marketing money is about a month behind schedule due to vendor fees and other business expenses. Basically "waiting" to pay to get into directories seems idiotic when I could be hunting up some of my own PageRank in the meantime. If indeed any sites/engines that are truly free (I don't care how small) they must be the best kept secrets on the net. I'll join a club, learn a secret handshake, heck I might even be talked into doing a gang initiation hit if ONLY someone will whisper these directory/engine location secrets my way....Thanks for listening to my rant, I'm gonna go search some more......... if I can just stop getting dizzy...... and passing ouuuuuuuuuut........................zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz <links removed>

ah hah, I've found some magic keywords and stumbled upon a few decent directories. Joeant.com, Tatet.com, Botonic.com, and Jayde.com are enough to keep me busy for tonght. If anyone knows of anymore by all means let me know! I hope somone out there finds these four as useful as I have. - Colin

Colin: In starting your business, you might give some thought to Google adsense. basically, you bid to be ranked on the right hand side for paid ads..the bid is unigue to a particular keyword expression you want. Ultimately, you are NOT PAYING the bid price to be listed there- you only pay it when someone clicks on it to go to your site. so it is sort of like: "of the people who have serached on this keyword phrase, how much would you pay to have them click to go to your site? 10cents? 50 cents/ $1.00?" One of the nice features for a small budget is that you cant set a daily cap so that you dont get suprises and exceed your budget. When I first tried it, I was chicken and set that daily cap at $1.00 so it couldnt exceed $30 month. Good luck As to Search Engines, focus on Yahoo, Inktomi, Google.
