How do I make vertical or horizontal lines that resize ... - 7/18/2004 19:58:19
For example, take a look at this website I am creating: www.townandcountrycomputers.com What I would like to do is take the horizontal blue line from the logo and extend it all the way to the right edge of the screen. I would also like to create a similar blue line to run vertically, starting a little under the logo and extending all the way to the bottom of the page. How would I go about doing that? I am guessing it would involve tables, but I don't really know where to start. I am just starting on this site, so I am really open to anything. I have created a few sites before using Frontpage, such as www.1966ford.com and www.wahpetonrotary.org but I have never done much beyond the basics. Any other suggestions for the layout of the site would be appreciated as well. Thanks.

hello 1966 ,had a look at your page , why dont you open your page in fp and on the left column ,right click in there split cells into 2 colums resize it to say 2 pixels wide then cell properties use background picture, pic your picture apply, or insert pictures direct into the column there are many other ways tho. Thanks for the help. I got the horizontal line working just the way I wanted it, now I just need to tackle the vertical line seperating the navigation lnks from the rest of the page. Edit - maybe not. It dsplays properly in Firefox, but I get a small gap in IE.

Ok, I can share with you the way I would approach this, however, bare with me as this is my first time describing something of this sort using a forum. What I would do involves both Front Page 200x and your image editing program (if applicable). Yes, you are correct about using tables. I would create a top table, consisting of 2 columns, and one row. The first cell would be the size of that image, and the second cell would go accross to the oppisite side of the page. Now, in your image editing program your going to have to work on the image logo of your site. Your going to have to make a repeating background that is the same height of your logo and doesn't really matter the length as it will repeat until the cells end. The background will connect where the line leaves off on the image, and I noticed the line doesn't go to the end of the image. It will have to for this to work. Does this make sence at all? This involves image slicing, ect... but basic image slicing. Then to put the images in front page, after the cells are set up, right click on the right longer cell and click cell properties, then on the bottom click use background picture. You could also do table properties, but only if the entire top is its own table, and not the same table as any other part of the website. For the bottom, I'd do the same thing, however do it going down. Does this help? Sorry if I'm not explianing good.

I figured out the image editing and setting the image as a backround picture for the cell. However, I can't seem to get rid of the small gap between the line in the frist cell and the line in the cel to the right of it. It displays fine in Firefox 0.9, but in IE 6 it has a gap I can't get rid of. Am I doing something wrong, or is IE doing something wrong I need to compensate for? BTW I am using Frontpage 2003, and use Paint Shp Pro 6 for image editing.

There is a gap between the image and the begining of the next cell, you need to allign the image to the left side, then after that, right click that cell (with the logo image) and place the same rotating thing in the background, this should solve the problem for you.
