confused -> asp activation (7/22/2004 9:03:48)

hi everyone, sorry if this has been covered before but i haven't found any answers to this yet. i'm trying to set up a web page to search a database (access 2000). i'm using frontpage 2002 to create the web page and i think i have a working page, so i'd like to test it. i'm pretty new to this and i understand that a web server needs to be used to run the asp pages. i have installed iis 5.1 on one machine and tried to publish from frontpage, but it tells me thatthe server is not asp compatible. i have useda couple of test pages on the server and they work, but wheni try and access the site i created it will not work, coming up with this error "Error Type:
Active Server Pages, ASP 0126 (0x80004005)
The include file '_fpclass/fpdblib.inc' was not found.
/attempt1.asp, line 48". this suggets to me that frontpage is not creating a file because it does not recognize the server as being asp compatible. any ideas? i should perhaps add that i'm creating the database ona laptop running win 2000 and office xp/2002 but trying to load it onto a computer running win xp and office 2000. unfortunately i cannot load iis onto my laptop, or office xp onto the win xp machine, as the laptop has been provided by my school and i don't have software cds from them. the xp machine is normally only used as an internet gateway and file server so office wasn't installed. when i did install it it gave me an error message which seemed to suggest that the frontpage scrips were too old for use with win xp. finally(!) i don't seem to have the right icons under administrative tools in control panel on win xp. i read a tutorial somewhere that suggested there should be another icon other tha internet information services, but i don't have this. can anyone help? i'm sorry if theres something really obvious i should have done, but i'm stuck!

it could be that your fpclass directory is not in the directory your web page is.

eg
mywebsite
-- fp_class
-- mywebpages
-- mypage.asp

effectively if your asp page is located within the "mywebpages" folder, you need to tell the page to look further down the folder tree for the fp_class folder.

so instead of "_fpclass/fpdblib.inc"
you need "../_fpclass/fpdblib.inc"

hope this helps
