_gail -> Browser check/critique (8/4/2004 7:01:45)

As some of you know, I've been trying to get out of the web design business but it's easier said than done when certain people ask.

Anyway, could someone please give me a quick browser check with Netscape, as I no longer have it. I'm just about plain running out of disk space with all the images on my 10 gb hard drive, so Netscape and a few other programs had to go.

I checked the site with Mozilla and AOL and it appears to be fine.

Here's the site:

http://www.feedourchildrenwa.org/index-xy71.htm

thanks in advance,
gail

nice site! - which version of netscape 4,6,7?

the first picture (girl drawing) looks a bit strange in colour when the others in the montage are sepia/b&w

Netscape 6 &/or 7 would be appreciated.

Re: the first picture - How strange does it look? I did it on purpose and the client loves it. I picked up the green from it and used the color within the site. I wanted to use the green to portray hope, as the other colors alone would be drab.

On my screen, the pencil and leaves are the only things you see in color, otherwise the rest of the photo of the little girl looks like a light sepia. Doesn't it show that way on your monitor?

d a v e -> RE: Browser check/critique (8/4/2004 7:40:17)

it's a little less sepia than the others, the hair looks quite blonde, but it's just a small detail and maybe more just my opinion, nothing to worry about. in fact looking at it again i think it works better than an all sepia version!

will have a look in netscape 7 when i get home (if my adsl is here yet!) though if it looks ok in moz then it should be identical (almost) in NN7.

Nope, still off. You need to center this bit:

<table border="0" cellpadding="14" cellspacing="0" width="760" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" >

Gail, I'm seeing it the way Dave apparently sees it. The first picture looks to be in color; the rest black & white. There is little contrast in the color, but her hair is no more muted than the pencil and leaves.

I should add that I didn't notice it until he pointed it out. But I came to web development through a programming background instead of graphic arts. Just thought you might want to know how it is displaying from here.

XP Pro, Firefox 0.9.1

I love the layout. Very clean, good use of color.

Thanks, Paulie.

I guess what I'm trying to figure out now if this looks annoying to any of you?

gail

paulie -> RE: Browser check/critique (8/4/2004 10:16:56)

No, it is certainly not annoying. I just wanted to let you know that it was not exclusive to Dave's hardware/software combination.

I respect & appreciate your artistic integrity, and would leave it just the way it is.

Donkey -> RE: Browser check/critique (8/4/2004 13:10:21)

I also see the first in colour and the rest b&w. I think it works well.
Only one sightly picky comment, and it may be just me being stupid, but the first time I saw it I tried to scroll up above the header picture bar. I would just drop it down about 5-10px so that a border of the background shows above the top as well as to the sides.

Nice clean bright design BTW.

_gail -> Netscape check (8/5/2004 13:52:25)

HI again,

Is there anyone who can give me a check of this site in Netscape? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

mar0364 -> RE: Netscape check (8/6/2004 13:30:44)

I really do like it. The picture on the header to the far left draws your eyes away from the text of the page. It is a beautiful picture. Maybe you could put another picture up there like everyone has suggested. It would draw the readers attention to your message more.

Great work.

_gail -> RE: Netscape check (8/6/2004 13:42:29)

Thank you. Actually, I may first try sepia toning the image on another layer, then erase the parts that I want in color (leaves and pencil).

Ya'll have helped me realize that even though it's a lovely image it may be a bit distracting. My only concern with changing it at this time is that my client is thrilled with the design and loves the header...not sure if I should change it if he's happy with it.

thanks again everyone. You've been a very big help and I'm grateful.
