Not my graphic:) I just used the ones from Gennys' web...and all I have in the way of Imaging things is M$ Paint...and that's as much use with GIFs as a choc fireguard....

Genny: I am not sure if the boredom of the person maintaining a site is adequate reason to redesign. Personally, I get frustrated with sites I visit regularly that seem to redesign every few months with no real improvement from my standpoint as a user.

I do think that your links on the left side are so close together that it is difficult to tell which one I am "riding over" and thus might benefit from a mouseover to distinguish them. On your goals page, you have underlines that are not links and thus frustrate users.

dan - I like that funky little right border when you hover on the nav menu - that's cool.

Personally, the current site is not visually appealing to me...the colors are drab (especially the aqua and drab mint green...makes me think of my elementary school gymnasium. LOL)

I think a reworking of the current template with a better color scheme will be great. Sometimes that's all it takes.

I am working with our graphic designer for a redesign... all of the graphics etc. Everything will be new in a few months. :)

What I meant by ideas... are any new "things" to do... for example, I have news, product features, contact pages, helpdesk, etc. on the site... any new coding/effects to do? Anything to help clients? New "features" not new layout.

Any ideas???:)

Thanks Dan, this very nice looks nice but I like white backdrops. Our GD has research on appealing colors.... what goes good with technical, he knows what colors to use for us.:)

Dave its because the graphic is cut for faster page loading... if you check the page, you'll see the 'y' :)

Genny

What may look technical color-wise..will only look professional if used correctly. Colors don't have to be technical to suit the site. Using dark greens, greys (or gray for you lot), dark blues will allow you to create a professional, techie looking site...without the need to try too hard.....

It's just a personal pref...but the colors don't have to be "technical" to portray a technical image

I think you misunderstand the point Dan. The Graphic Designer will have research that shows certain colours and combinations of colours convey the technical nature of the site more obviously to the target audience. It's nothing to do with how nice it looks. In the same way certain colours are never used with some products e.g. AFAIK nobody has successfully sold blue food excepting short term gimmicks. All lawn care products have a lot of green on the pack, and heaters are shown with warm colours like oranges and reds. I have been involved in the development of display packaging in another life, and most of the good designers I have worked with research the colour combinations to find the right trigger colours for the product with the target market before they start the design process.

When you come down to basics a website that is selling or showcasing a product is acting initially as display packaging. It is the first thing the customer sees and if it doesn't look right and create interest immediately then the customer will never pick up the pack and read what's on the sides and the back - no matter how good the design or the product is.

Is that the short version of Microsoft's new mission statement?

Mike...it does render in FF....it looked like that to start with here (at home)....hover over one of the links at the nav jumps down to where it should be

Image to prove it

it also renders perfectly in NN7.1 and Mozilla 1.7

Don't know about Opera....don't have it installed at the moment

Dan

I was going to say, it did to that for me too in Mozilla - it looked goofy like that until the thing fully loaded and I tried to click a link...then it flew into place and stayed there.

Why is that?

You're right it does jump into place but (that word again:)) if you follow a link and return it's back up again. It's a little better in Opera 7.2...
:)
but:) although it doesn't revert upon following a link and returning it does revert if you refresh the page or return to it from a different site.

OK...I'm confused...lol....When viewing the page at work through IE...locally...it's fine...(most likely 'cos it's instant loading)...viewing it through the web @ work via IE...it did jump up...so I altered the CSS to correct to problem...now...if anyone can see a problem with my CSS....tell me...'cos AFAICS....there's nothing wrong with it.

Just don't put up stupid poll features.

Today I was snooping around some real estate websites for some fresh ideas, and found this poll:

"Tell us what you think! We want to know!"

"Which chore would you rather have your spouse do for you:

Take out the trash
Cood dinner
Do the laundry
All of the Above"

And I was thinking, what in H-E-Double-Toothpicks does that have to do with Century 21?

I was reading it expecting one to have something to do with "surfing the net to find our new house" or something.

It was totally pointless and a waste of browser real estate (unless of course it's an email harvesting scam which makes it even worse)

Anyhooo...
