Frontpage Includes - 8/20/2004 11:14:46
I'm having a strange problem with my website. when I publish to my 2000 server which is running frontpage 2002 server extensions my includes stop working. Worse still, for some reason the webserver ignores the location I have given for the included pages and insists on looking in the include directorry off root. If I point the same website at my current working directory then the includes work as I expect to (well almost, there are a few other strange things happening such as includes working for pages in the root directory, failing for the fisrst level but working for all subesequent levels but thats another matter....) Any ideas why any of this is happening, I have not had any problems in the past. Many thanks Chris

Here is an exaplme of the two includes I am using: <!--webbot bot="Include" U-Include="../../includes/Menu/Menu.htm" TAG="BODY" --> this displays a menu that is generic to all pages and so is in the includes directory <!--webbot bot="Include" U-Include="Menu/Menu.htm" TAG="BODY" --> this displays a page specific menu and so is in a subdirectory relative to the location of the opening page

http://www.ralph-systems.co.uk The home page has a menu bar that is identical to all other pages include wise and it fails to load the javascript but the others work!! I'm at a total loss...... If you follow the links for perimeter security or contfiltering then youl get an idea for what the menus are supposed to do.

The navigation bar is using your images but they do not seem to be preloaded so are taking a moment to appear, may I suggest preloading all mouseover images.

hmm, I can't seem to get them to laod at all but I will try this. The other menu problems I detailed were down to incorret aths in my javascript preenting the graphics from loading. when I try to publish the pages with link bars (basically all of them) FP says that my server doesn't support them and that I should upgrade its extensions to 2002 or ms sharepoint. I've sone this and its still giving me the error. Any ideas? not sure why ellipisces had problems accessing the site as nthing has changed over the weekend but I'll keep my eye on it. Thanks chris

Thanks all those who tried (and sometimes succeeded, too much security can be a bad thing clearly!) in accessing my site and providing me with some usefull ideas. The final problem was linked to my theme and navigation structure which used custom links. once these were removed, a new navigation structure and new theme created from scratch, applied to the entire site and republished everything started working although I am still not clear why. I still get errors reported by frontpage stating that the link bars are not supported though but they seem to work so thats the main thing. Once again thanks for your help. Chris
