Hi guys. Like many other members on this forum, this site is pretty much my first corporate website and so I would like some friendly, constructive criticism [:)]

well it will be friendly but not pretty...<smile>
1.took forever to load..main image needs to be maximized
2. all the movement has to go! not appropriate for a "corporate site
3. background color amateurish
4. naviagtion impossible to find
5. guest book inappropriate

shall I continue? dont be offended- just being honest

Thank you DPF. Don't worry, I'm not offended [:D]. I've taken it onboard and i've changed it to be updated soon.

When you say the navigation is impossible to find, could you give me more info on what you mean. I was aiming to have the site nav is easy to find, yet not too large as to detract from the rest of the page (or site as it were). What would you suggest?

Welcome to the forum.

I have a few minor points;
1. I Don't find the colour scheme very easy to read, and it hurts my eyes after a while.
2. There's too much movement on the opening page, one animated gif would be tolerable but two becomes distracting. Oh and the marquee compounds the problem.
3. The navigation in the centre of the page is too small and too close together so that it is difficult to work out which link your cursor is hovering over. It would be better to use a bigger font and have a text colour change when you hover over the link.

Not a bad first effort though.

...and a better typeface, and mouseover colours, possibly a few more colours on your page, the three-column layout is OK, just needs a bit of colour separation.

It's just a bit too 'busy' at the minute, the other points that have been raised are also valid.

I appreciate that but..it sure needs to be large enough to jump out..it doesnt detract..it is the passageway to the other pages!!!

Try modifying your layout. A standard header > navigation > content would be fine. Most users will look for that when they visit the site.

adding to marks comment.... what good designers do is start the old fashioned way...with a piece of paper...lay it out..you dont have to be artistic..but layout a design on paper..spend some time analyzing other good sites... oftentimes beginners want their site to be truly unique..that probably a mistake..with millions and millions of sites out there, its impossible that your first attempt would be unique and good.

there is value to the expression - dont reinvent the wheel

excellent, *jotting down all of the advice* Because the colour is the shop's scheme, i really want to try and keep that colour. I've decided to make the left side round to the top of the page in that colour, while all the time making the edge look like it's blending into the bulk of the page, which i'll make white (if you know what I mean?)

Yeah I think so! Definitely, well keep some of the colour, just try toning it down with the addition of a white and possibly a darker shade also. That'll add to the overall aesthetic of the site. If you do as Dan said, make a graphic with what you want the site to look like and then give us a URL!

if that is the store color, you are right - it should be there - but not so prominent. go to this site:

what you need are several "complimentary colors to give your site variety and appeal. the hex number for that color is EB5A1E. enter that number at the page and find 2 or 3 complimentary colors..write down the hex number for each and build site using those colors

be conventional with structure but creative with color
