"No records found" - Without extraspace

When I set a different message other than "No records found" on a database query everything works properly. I'm trying now that when there are no records returned that NOTHING (not even a linebreak <br>) appear on the page. I get an empty line and I cannot get rid of it. Can anyone help me out please?
