Server Error: Cannot open file... - 9/9/2004 22:54:49
Help

I'm sure this has been addressed before ... but I can find one that applies exactly to my situation.

I currently build/manage 7 website through FrontPage 98. It works just great for me. They're such small sites, I've never needed to upgrade to FP2000/02/03/...

Now, just one of the sites is giving me the "Server Error: Cannot open "index.htm" for writing" message (and you can replace index.htm with the name of ANY file in the site -- & I'm editing it live, not Publishing to it). On Sept 9 it worked just fine. Today, I can't get into it.

I've contact the domain host and they are having no issue on thier end.

Out of frustration, I dusted off WSFTP and was able to publish to the site just fine.

What happened to FP?

ps - and please don't tell me to uninstall/reinstall. The other 6 sites work perfectly fine. It's just the one that has crapped out out

Regardless, you should try this. Even if it is a subweb, you should still attempt to re-install the FPSE.

Seeing as you have 7 sites, they will either be all under different domains/account, yes? Therefore, if you have a problem with one, it will be in no way related to the other.

If they are subwebs of another, the case is still the same, each subweb will have it's own separate installation of FPSE.

If the page uses the FPE, this is not recommended, as it can corrupt your FPSE on the server, therefore requiring a re-install of them
