error message in FP2002 - 9/14/2004 4:39:40
I am plagued with an error message in FP 2002. When in Page view I try to switch between Normal and Preview and i get "An error occurred while attempting to write this file" and then "this page cannot be displayed" Please help me. Hours of work are going up in smoke. Thankyou

Welcome to OutFront johnauger!!!

Is this site on your workstation? If so how did you physically get it there?

Take care,

Brian

Hi Brian,

Sorry don't quite understand the question. If by site you mean FP2002 I installed it onto my machine from the FP2002 master disc

Brian means the web you are trying to open. Did you copy it from a disc? FTP it down to your machine? Create it with FP on your machine? Publish down from host to your machine?

Dan

Hi Dan,
I see what you mean. It is one that I am in the process of creating on my machine.

Go to the directory where your site sit at on your hard drive. Right click one of the files in question and go to properties. Does it have a checkmark for "read only"? If so clear that check mark and you should be back in business.

If not I would create a new site, as a test only, and see if the issue follows the program or goes away.

Take care,

Brian

if it were me. I'd open the local web in explorer. remove all the _VTI folders and then reopen it in FP. It should say something to the effect of "the isnt a web, do you want fronpage to make it one" then it will recreate all the required files, with the correct perms etc
