Hi everyone,

This may be a simple problem with an easy answer, but as a novice it's simply beyond me. I'm trying to upload a form to a website, and when typing in the form properties that i'd like the results sent to an email address i'm getting the following response:

"this form is being created on a disk-based web or the frontpage server extensions have not been configured to send email. Please direct your system administrator or Internet Service Provider to the instructions in Setting Up E-mail Options in Windows or Setting Up Email Options in Unix in the Server Extensions Resource Kit. If you do not have the Server Extensions Resource Kit you can find it at www.microsoft.com/frontpage/wpp/serk"

I can't seem to understand why i'm getting this message, my web host does support frontpage extensions, but as i'm getting this message when i'm attempting to save the form properties, even before i'm publishing the form, it must be something else?

I also have another problem to do with a webbot that appears on the form page, does anyone know if the two error messages are related, or have an answer as to how i can fix this problem?

Try creating a new web on yout computer and import all but the Form over. Then re-create the form with the same settings.

Thanks for that help, actually i tried both and neither worked.

I told you i wasn't very technically minded, well from reading several other posts and faq's, and Frontpage2002 The Complete Reference, i'm convinced i need iis on my computer?

Is this true? All i'm doing at present is creating webpages in Frontpage and ftp'ing them to my web host. I have Windown XP Home Edition, do i need to upgrade to XP Professional with IIS, or os IIS separate?

Nope, you only need IIS on your puter if you want to test the web before you publish to your host

I'm afraid your going about it the wrong way. When using FP, and the bits of it that need FPSE (like forms), you need to publish it to your host rather than FTP it. Just go File Menu>>Publish enter your site address, and then your login details. Then it *should* publish the web for you.

Only upgrade to Pro if you really really want to, IIS doesn't come with Home, but if you get to grips with it, you can use either Abyss or Apache and install FPSE on them?

It¡¦s been over two weeks now since I left this problem, I had to leave it out of frustration, but it won¡¦t go away will it?

I¡¦m still getting the same error message when trying to tell the form properties dialogue box that I want to save results only to an e-mail address. Surely this dialogue box doesn¡¦t have the intuition to know anything about my ISP or web host and whether they¡¦ve got FrontPage server extensions enabled or not. But just in case it has, here¡¦s the deal:

„X I¡¦m editing this site on my computer
„X My ISP doesn¡¦t support FP Extensions
„X My Web Host does, but the emails are all hosted by my ISP.

The error message I¡¦m getting is:

I¡¦m getting this message after clearing the send to ¡V file name box and entering my email address in the email address box. Then when I view the page in a browser, or just preview it in FrontPage, text appears above the ¡§Submit¡¨ button saying ¡§FrontPage Save Results Component¡¨.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem and make my form send the results to an email address?

Right Click on the Form, and go to Form Properties, and select the Send To Option, save it, and publish it straight away

Hi Dan,

I've calmed down, i've had a drink! lol

I tried that, but there is no save option in the dialogue box and i can't click on any menu like file/save because the dialogue box is open.

If i just click okay, that's when i'm getting that message and another one under it asking if i'd like to remove the email address. I'm selection "no" at that point.

I just clicked on the "yes" option to delete the email address and it seemed to accept that, because it opened a dialogue box called "Saving Results". I then clicked okay and didn't receive that message.

But...

My webpage still has "Frontpage Save Results Component" above the "Submit" button. Take a look - www.nixdesign.com.au/contact.htm

I've also entered a confirmation page, but upon clicking the submit button, it shows a page saying that i have to submit my site to a Host who supports FrontPage Extensions, which mine does.

Nuh uh....You want to click NO, it's b'cos it is a "Disk-based" web you are working on, once published to the serve, that will not matter[;)]

Wasn't publish[&:] - You will need to publish this page...File>>Publish Web>>Enter URL>>Username & Password, and then publish the needed files

Well it's just not working i guess, as i've tried what you said and it hasn't worked.

Do you think my web host has uninstalled FP extensions? Should i contact them about this do you think?

I really do appreciate the time you've spent helping me with this. And thanks for the compliments about my site.

Their Webmaster won't be there until the morning, but at least i now know it's not something i'm doing wrong.

Hi,

First time I tried to add a form to one of my sites I got exactly the same message. The problem was that I was trying to save the form data to a file on the server that did not exist.

The problem was resolved by creating the file that I was trying to save the data to on the server.

Iy you can't do this, then your webmaster at the hosting service may be able to help you.
