AM I Couture Enough? - 9/15/2004 12:34:00
Hi everybody,

This fashion site is in early stages. The only link that works goes to the galleries. I kinda wanted to do a functional site that had some artistic minimalist value.

The galleries, I gotta build 8 more of these things. They take a bit of time to create so whatcha think?

Am I presenting the products well enough? The only link that works goes to the galleries

Thanks

Couture enough?

I don't think the menu navigation links are very "couture". Seem kind of plain for couture. Some stylish gif buttons might work better.

And I'm not a fan of the background. Too much like grandma's wallpaper and curtains. Grandma never was very couture, tho.

It doesn't look very couture at 1024 resolution. It looks lopsided. Would centering it work in both resolutions?

The galleries are very professional looking photos, but I might frame them or border them with a couture type of thing.

Good luck with your work in progress.

Hi, I was doing a gallery recently and I didn't like it when the images were of different sizes - vertical ones and horizontal ones so I came up with an idea to strech the canvas left and right for vertical images, and up and down for horizontal images in this way the table of images looks much better than before because all of the images were the sime size. Before it looked untidy. Hope you understood me :-)

My grandmom (and I have seen others) could teach the frail liitle girls and straving 20ish models currently in vogue the real meaning of "couture"

Well, if you are aiming at minimalist, then that chinese restaurant flock wallpaper background is not it. The colour is good, suggesting opulence and minix could be right in advising you to centre the content on the screen. ( If you really must, you could keep your fancy background to the edges only :))

Although you are showcasing the images, like a good window dresser you do not detract from the merchandise - plain and simple is good.

Nice stuff there, though.
Cheers

Barry,

Personally, I think the pictures should be in a table to bring them up off the background...and I agree with Minix that there should be a thin border around the pics...just a simple 1px solid black border would be great.

I like that background, barry.

However you have some tiling problems with it at 1024 on the galleries.

Ok I changed the Background and added some gold bars to a few of the pages,

I really don't want to add borders because I have 8-10 other galleries to add, and I can't figure out how to add borders to them without doing each individual picture :) 1 at a time

Yes, it does tile badly on 1024 resolution and IMO the colours clash with the predominant fashion colour - the whites and black are OK. I would suggest a solid background for the galleries and choose a neutral that won't clash with any of the clothes colours.

A screenshot showing the effect on 1024 and a suggestion for a neutral colour.
Borders on the images would be good and the fastest way do do that would be using CSS, but you may not want to start learning that at this point. So you could try Web Album Generator which is standards compliant and uses CSS, to do a quick fix. (You'll still have to personalise it though:))

PS. I like the home page, much better.

Barry, you can do it with CSS in the head of each gallery page.

<style type="text/css">
IMG {border: 1px solid black; }

IMG.plain {border: 0;}
</style>

If you have other images on those pages that you don't want a border around, then just put class="plain" in the IMG tag.

You could do it in an external style sheet but then you'd have to go back and change the class for ALL the images you don't want borders around.

Hi,

Nice site - a couple of comments

I am using IE6 - when I hover over the links, the text dissappears

I agree with a previous comment about the images being different sizes when you click on the thumbnail - more consistent sizes would be good.

Cheers

One link: http://duware.com/products/category.asp?iCat=6&nCat=Image%20&%20Gallery

I like it, but I would like it more if you kept the galleries to one page at a time... scrolling just isn't fun! It loses consistency when you go to the gallery, so just keep it consistent! :)

Hi Summer,

Whatcha mean?

Each galley is a different occasion or fashion line so they should be on different pages. Is that what you mean?

The background, top navigation and all the things that I was used to suddenly disappeared!
