dr cronk -> "not enough memory" error message (9/17/2004 18:41:44)

I occasionally get a message from FP when I do a Save As saying "an unexpected error occured. Not enough memory to do the operation". I have 512MB RAM, and WindowsXP task manager shows 250MB of it is still available. No other apps are running. It only happens maybe once every few hours, (not just after running for a long time, it can happen when I first open the program), but the only way to carry out the Save As is to reboot the computer. Restarting FP does not help.
Any ideas?
Thanks

dr,

What OS? How much do you have available on your hard drive? The 250MB is teeny.

dr cronk -> RE: "not enough memory" error message (9/18/2004 10:22:12)

I have WindowsXP, 12GB available on the c: drive.

Regarding RAM, from microsoft:

RAM requirements for FrontPage 2002 depend upon the operating system used, plus an additional 8 MB of RAM for FrontPage

Windows XP Professional, or Windows XP Home Edition
128 MB of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)

250MB of RAM isnt teeny.

You are absolutely right, somehow I was equating his statement to mean hard drive storage.

My next suggestion is to run an adware removal program like Ad-Aware.

Are you the only user of your computer?

I notice at my school computers when I reply on Outfront I get an error message about memory. I think this is beause the school's security system prevents the access to some memory.

Yes, I have run Adaware regularly.

This is a standalone computer, in my home.

Are there any patches or updates for FP2002? I have OfficeXP SP3 on a cd but have not installed it yet because of the reported problems some people have had with it.

BobbyDouglas -> RE: "not enough memory" error message (9/19/2004 11:34:58)

I ran Office XP fine for a long time.

www.microsoft.com might have some patches for FP 2002, it is worth a try, but I doubt that is the problem. I think it is a security setting somewhere.

Can you take a screenshot of this exact error message, and post it here for us? Alt+PrintScreen, then Control+V to paste the image into MS Paint. Save it as a jpg.

dr cronk -> RE: "not enough memory" error message (9/20/2004 19:46:43)

I've made the jpeg, can't seem to figure out how to post it. Below this box it says "Upload requires at least 30 posts". Is that referring to attachments?
the message says " An unexpected error occured: Not enough memory available to complete the operation. Close other programs to make more memory available, then try again."

BobbyDouglas -> RE: "not enough memory" error message (9/20/2004 20:00:22)

Yeah, it means you need 30 posts.

Just upload it to your server if you can, or post it somewhere else and give us a link. Or Email it to bobbydouglas [at] cox . net

I posted the message here:

Sometimes FP will get a damaged file and that error message will appear. I would "repair" frontpage by inserting the installation cd and click Fix or Repair.

dr cronk -> RE: "not enough memory" error message (9/24/2004 17:36:31)

I did the repair, but I still get the message.

Swirl -> RE: "not enough memory" error message (9/24/2004 18:54:15)

I don't know if this is any help, but I found the following in the Microsoft Knowledge Base...

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;830265&Product=fp2002

It sounds like it could be related to your problem.

Good luck!

Thanks for the help.
The symptoms do seem to be similar to what I am getting, although I can't say I really understand the article, written in the usual MS obfuscated manner. But it does seem to say the problem is related to Veritas software, which I do not have any installled on my computer.
