Atomz vs. (+/or) Google search (Full Version)

For some time I've been using Atomz so visitors could search my site. I like the reports and I particularly like that I can customize the colors.

Very recently, I added Google Search (without search this site), though placed it away from Atomz on each page. I'm wondering if you have any thoughts/suggestions about using both. What are the pros and cons? Is it better to have only one search feature on pages in a site?

I do make a few (literally) pennies, if someone uses Google Search.

I would think one content search would be plenty. It could be confusing but hey I fond web sites without search period so maybe more choices is better.

My last site I had a content search and a product search. I thought this would be a good plan to help convert to sales. In reviewing log files for both I found people were using both for both type of searches. I even had them mark plainly and very apparent.

Go figure [8|].

Brian, do you have any suggestion which is better to use: Google or Atomz. As I said, I like the latter because I can customize the look and for the reports. However, Google is tied with AdWords.

I think as of today that from an income point of view you can take it that Google is better.

Atomz have announced that they will be displaying google ads on your search results when using their search - with the income of course going to them.

Research this with XP SP2 now in the field and blocking popups. I have not had a need to research yet as my site is still local to my hard drive. It might block everything, it might only block certain types. Guess I am trying to say be sure.

Thanks, Brian. I'm pretty much moving away from having sites outside my own open in new windows. I just wasn't certain about Google Search (I've eliminated Atomz and added Google search to all my pages).

It's interesting, though, never thought that a new window could be considered a pop-up. In any case, I support pop-up blocking as pop-ups are a real pain in the behind.

Hi

We just changed over to Google search from Atomz today, mainly for the reasons Katherine mentions (and that we would have no control over the ads being shown), seems to be working well and no pop up problems.

Opening in a new page is not a popup since it takes overt action by the viewer. Neither Windows XP SP2 (IE) nor Mozilla blocks overt clicks to open a new page.

A popup (or under) occurs simply because you are viewing a site.

Not quite. Many pop-up blockers will also block pop-up that use JavaScript or other scripting to open a link in a new window, even though that link is clicked on by the user.

They do not block links using target="_blank" though.
