Virus From Frontpage Form! - 9/20/2004 13:09:24
I recently ran a survey on my website. You can see it at:

http://www.aksworld.com/Survey3.htm

This began two days ago and results are emailed to me. When I ran my virus checker on my computer today, it shows that I have the "Mail Bomb" virus (a variant of something called Netsky apparently) in the Eudora folder I that created especially for these survey emails only.

But how can that be? Nobody has sent me any attachments, nor can they from the form I set up there. Is there some sort of vulnerability within Frontpage 2000 that is being exploited? Also, as a matter of interest, I ran a survey last year and the exact same thing happened. A virus appeared in the survey email folder.

Please let me have your thoughts. Is the server now infected with something (it's actually a different server from the one used for last year's survey) or do Frontpage 2000 forms create some sort of virus vulnerability?

Chill! lol

The problem is not the form, it's not FP2000, it's your host.

It sounds like the have been hacked, and a virus dropped in on the SMTP server, or the POP server for that fact. They should be made aware of this problem. Netsky is a SPAMming viri, has several variations, and comes in many shapes and forms.

I would clean out the viri, and then contact the host, and inform them of the possibility of a SPAM Virus residing in their servers

Dan

Hello Dan,

Thank you for this and I am onto it with support.

Can I ask if you are sure this is the case? You see, I had a virus when I carried out a very similar survey last year, and I was on a totally different surver then! In fact, I am now on a dedicated server with firewall etc.
