Error in frontpage installation (apache 1.3.31) - 9/20/2004 17:43:22
I've got the install for Apache with PHP, MySQL and Frontpage down to a science HOWEVER, we're running into some problems with the actual install of frontpage itself. It seems as though everything installs fine, we're able to install webs and everything using owsadm.exe. Now once we have a successful install of a web and we try to login with the correct login/pass, we see the following (and on the third login attempt it works): First Attempt to login: An error occured accessing your Frontpage web files. Authors - if authoring against a web server, please contact the webmaster for this server's site. Webmasters - please see the server's system log for more details. [log excerpt]: [Mon Sep 20 14:16:06 2004] [error] [client xx.xx.xx.xx] Invalid method in request method=open+service%3a4%2e0%2e2%2e4715&service%5fname= (we're not sure what this means) Second attempt to login: (I forget the error here) Third attempt to login: Access granted, everything is as it should be. Anybody else run into this problem? Any ideas what we may be doing wrong? The only part about the installation that confuses me is the whole 'root web' thing that is required, although we don't even use it. Again, anybody know anything about this? or how to get it to work without it? how to bypass it or anything? -Matt Kotich

It's RedHat Enterprise 3... We never really had any problems back on RH6+. But as we upgraded over the years the frontpage install seems to have gotten trickier and trickier... And as far as RHEL3 goes, the httpsd install's gotten a lot more tricky too, but we solved that. But that issue lead me to believe that it's possible that there will need to be some tweaking on the server in order to get it to work correctly I think it's mostly due to the -required- root web deal, either that or permissions somewhere.. Like I said in my post before though, 3 login attempts and you're in. However we cannot bring this to our customers like that, obviously. "Yeah we know it's going to fail twice, but just enter your passwd 3 times and you're good!"... why can't FP be easier.. heh. -Matt

I would try a manual install rather than an automated one...that way you can check the settings your self. Try the Apache web for instructions Dan
