Its been published for a while, I have is confident in updating any new changes, etc,

I got 30 pages in my site at the moment, up to yesterday every thing was working ok. no problems i got tons of web page left, am only using 19 out of 100mb acounts.

getting to my problem

I change some words on one of the pages , next I get this massage,

system exception vialation.

the first thing i notice was, when i went to republish the changed page, the box which appear which allows you to click on to publish , the left hand box which got all the files in , which would have the ticks on to mark the changes wasn't there, the right hand box had files in as normal

basically according to my frontpage files, I have nothing at all in front page, no files, no images, no problems etc, every thing is gone

its still publish so it got to be some where, i haven't got it in any search engines yet, it just published to the browser , when i go in to my web4 which is sited in my documents, i click on this and every thing is still there,
please what have happened, can you help me,

i thought i better add I am running xp, my husband front page stuff is ok in his page on xp, its not publish or any thing so i know it haven't cross mine out

"system exception vialation" is the exact error message that you get?

Does this message appear when you try to publish any files on your computer, or just your web site on your computer.

If this is happening when you publish. Try having your host reinstall FP server extensions.

If reinstalling FP extensions on the server does not fix this then it's likely the problem is a corrupt config file in your local web.

If so, the fix would be to do a reverse publish to a new folder on your hard drive and get rid of the corrupted web. Here is info on reverse publishing.

Thank you for you help,I am so frustrated by this i haven't been near FP page in ages , but it beckens me,
I have got a back up copy of my site.
When I go to my host site, I got the option to reset, front page with extentions, or
RESET SITE, also resets front page server extentions if installed,

on the later one a massage appears that my site can be lost, i am a bit nervous to do any thing.
which one do i use...

Did you try the reverse publish that I suggested?

I would do it to a completely new folder.

I am running FP2000 and am also having system exception: access violation errors when I try to publish just the pages I have changed. See thread http://www.frontpagewebmaster.com/m_196233/tm.htm#196233
Is importing in FP2000 the same as doing a reverse publish as you suggest?

Importing is not the same. Importing will not move all the files that need to be moved in a FP web.

If this error is happening when you're publishing then I would have the host reinstall FP server extensions. If that doesn't fix it, I would have the host wipe out the site and publish again fresh.

The possible solution I was suggesting earlier was for when this happens while trying to open your local site.

Did you ever try the reverse publish that I suggested?

I was recommending the site wipe out to someone else who was getting that error while publishing. You were not getting that error while publishing. I had suggested a reverse publish from your server to your local computer.

Here is one thing that may work. If you're using a FP theme, nav component, or any FP components, they will be destroyed, but you can add them back after you at least get your html files back.

Open Windows Explorer from Start > All Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer.

Locate and open your web folder. Delete all the folders in it that have names that begin with an underscore.

Then try to open your local web again in FP. FP will tell you the folder is not a FP web and ask if you want FP to turn it into one. Say yes. This will have FP create all of the config files including, hopefully, the one that was corrupted causing your problem.

There was never a reason for you to wipe out your hosted site unless the error was happening when you were trying to either open or publish to the hosted site.

Sorry for the misunderstanding on that!!!

In Windows Explorer, do Tools > Folder Options > View > Hidden files and folders > Check "show hidden files and folders."

Right I am not sure what I did but the dreaded sign is gone, and my FP isn't frozen any more.

next problem,

I moved my web folder from my webs to a extra hard drive we have got on the pc, to keep it save whilst I was having problems with front page. In my naivety i presumed i will be able to copy and paste it back to my original webs folder, and every thing will work again, not so, what is my next step ,

i found the hidden files also, i deleted the files with the under score, i had a lot of them,

Right this is where I am up to,
I restored those files with the underscore,

when I am in FP and I go to files / open, all my pages are present, (30).
all pages are working in browers, Hyperlinks, email, thumbnails etc,

In task view, shows my task I have assigned
Navigation works ok
reports view, some times this works, showing details, other times it shows the system exception massage

now folders view its saying I have none !!!! even though at the top it say c:/ doc etc

now as a test, I done a new page to add to mine, when it tried to save the embedded image I notice it haven't got any where to go nor have got any thing to click on to change it, (i hope you understand that bit)

now still testing, I tried to publish my pages, when I get the publish box,
I got the publish from c:/mydoc etc and
publish to my web server .

now under the box, publish from , is empty showing nothing at all, in the publish designation box it got, folders, pri_ ,-zisp- (i have never notice this one before) image, and index.html.

I think it got to be something to do with the folders, destination,
I will be really grateful, on any help to sort this mess out,
my family needs looking after and I got tons if house work to do, and my hubby is getting fed up with cooking:) because this is really taking over me,

You need to open the web folder as a FrontPage web. This will allow FP to re insert the config files that you will need in order to publish.

File > Open Web > In the look-in drop down, locate and open the web folder at issue > click the open button in the Open Web dialog. FP will then tell you this folder is not a FP web and ask if you want it to turn the folder into one. Click Yes.

RE: system exception vialation - 10/2/2004 21:43:36
when i go to file/ open web all I get is a image folder and a photogallerery folder when i go to open it, it turns in to a gray screen, now if I go to file /open, I get my images folder, photo gallery plus all my pages and I can open any page.

now whilst I am with this look in drop down, if i click on the look in menu and go to my documents and click on my web4 folder and when i click on the little arrow thingy by the open button i do get , open in front page but it is grayed out, i don't get no prompt asking me to turn my folder in a front page one.

what i am thinking should my pages be in a folder in my webs folder like the images and photo gallery (fp compoments) just a thought

i must thank you for helping me i am really no good at all this stuff, as you might have guessed.
am also thinking should i scape this web altogether and start a fresh one, i don't know how i got to web4 in the first place I haven't got no other webs..

Here's another way to go. Create a new web in FP. Then open the old web folder in Windows Explorer. Then drag/drop all of the files from the old web folder into the new web in FP.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but I had a similar problem using FP2002. I cannot access any files that use the theme that came with the template, but any other page can be opened/edited/saved to the webserver. I do not have any problems I do not have this problem when using FP2002 to access this same website from my home machine (XP Home Edition).

The site has been built using the OutFront ‘Rings’ template. You can see it here: http://www.marsqa.org

AS soon as I try to open the home page (or any page that uses the theme), I see the following messages in the status bar:
“Retrieving index.html”
“Loading http”//www.marsqa.org”
“Retrieving _themes/themes.inf…”

Then I get the “System Exception Access Error” message, and FP freezes up.

Any ideas? Like I said, this only occurs when I try to access the web from my work machine. I have no problems from home.

Thank you,
Frank

This seems to be an issue of a corrupted file in your OS. I have heard of people fixing this by reinstalling OS service packs.

Thanks Thomas,
I am going to let the System Admin know about this. You wouldn't happen to know which service pack or which file usually causes this, would you?

I had one person send me an email telling me that he had reinstalled SP-1 and SP-2, and the problem went away. Sorry I don't have more to tell you. :)
