Best Cart / E-zine Combo - 9/29/2004 16:25:08
I have a client with a book to sell, and an e-zine and a web site to sell it. She currently has 1shoppingcart, a merchant account and decent hosting. Her collegues have raved about 1shoppingcart as the best cart / marketing combo, featuring auto responders and the ability to format the e-zine in HTML. We also chose them because we were going to sell digital media, which we are not going to be doing.

I fought with it for two hours yesterday to create the first e-zine. I couldn't preveiw what I was working on, the HTML wouldn't display properly and some pictures were missing, although I double checked that all the addresses were absolute. I finally gave up created the e-zine in Vertical Response, which I use for another client.

My client's concern is that we would, potentially, have a data base going on for the e-zine at Verticle Response, with the cost of a few bucks per month, and separate data being collected from the cart that is already paid for.

My concern is all of the time it's taking me, or will take me if we move the cart in some way (like upgrade her hosting package and use Miva), as well as the two data sources not being integrated, because it will inveriably fall to me to mesh the two together.

The site I'm working with is www.wordmagic.biz

Any recommendations for this dilema would be greatly appreciated.

What database are you using?

If access, she could spend about $10 per month on windows hosting and get an ASP based cart for $50. I can help you set it up in less than a day.
