Youngster -> Site not showing up (9/29/2004 23:07:20)

I have only recently begun web site development. I have been trying to get a number of sites picked up by Google and Yahoo. I have submitted the sites but nothing has happened (for a couple of months)

Can you please advise on the best way to get sites picked up by the search engines?

I have done a certain amount of optimisation (page titles, descriptions, keywords) and tried to use the keywords in the body of the text.

I understand there is a lot to SEO, but I am just trying to get found and will work on improving rankings once I am in there.

Two of the sites are:
www.users.tpg.com.au/m_young
www.onlyentertainment.com.au

Thanks for your help.

Youngster

Submitting your site to search engines is not a guaranteed way of getting your self on the SERPs. It can also take up to three months for your web to appear in the SERPs.

quote:

Please note: Only the top-level page from a host is necessary; you do not need to submit each individual page. Our crawler, Googlebot, will be able to find the rest. Google updates its index on a regular basis, so updated or outdated link submissions are not necessary. Dead links will 'fade out' of our index on our next crawl when we update our entire index

You will only need to submit each site once to Google

Google also state:

quote:

Your site URL has been successfully added to our list of URLs to crawl. Please note that we do not add all submitted URLs to our index, and we cannot make any predictions or guarantees about when or if they will appear.

Therefore, no guarantee that you will get added to the index. I am not sure, but I would think it is the same with Yahoo.

The best, and easiest way to get on Google/Yahoo Index is to get backlinks to your site. Easiest solution being a link in your signature on a high ranking forum etc.

The forum backlink is a very good way of getting picked up by several search engines, just remember to do it properly.

Spamming forums for that is frowned upon, most places don't mind so long as you go about it the right way. [:)]

Reciprocal link trades and submitting your site to the free directories is a great way to get noticed by the search engines.

There is a variety of ways to get a site listed in the search engines. To list a few:
Reciprocal link exchanges - help to build PR which is page rank to a website to help the site to get picked up by the search engines.
Linking to the client - By Adding the clients link informtion to your home page and through out your site will help them as well.

General Traffic:
Traffic Exchanges - click through other webmaster sites for exchange a click back
Classifieds - Post classified ads of your products and or services. Many times the search engines will pick this up and get a site listed.
Forums - Not to spam forms or anything like that but to add information on topics you reconize and list the urls.
Banner Exchanges - Receive credits back for showing banners on a site and in return get your banner out on other sites.. It does work but again, I just want to say that banner exchanges have been proven to eat some of your credits.
Text Ad Exchanges - Where you exchange text ads on home page and other high traffic areas in return for another site to do this. I've found this very effective.
Auctions - To get the products out.. I have heard that ebay is also allowing for people to sell or bid on services.. I don't know if thats the trueth or not im just stating what i've heard.
