Only change a part of a website? - 9/30/2004 21:29:13
I am totally stupid.
I need to know how to do the following:
the dude clicks on the link in the site's navigation, and a part of the website changes. So let's just say on the left side it has the latest news...then when they click on...umm..About Us..the "latest news" turns into "About us"...but I don't want the rest of the webpage to change...just the "changing news" part...please use step by step instructions! Are you supposed to use incline frames or something? Please reply ASAP REALLY URGENT! Thanks! :)

I would recommend staying away from frames as much as you can...

Have you looked into Include pages at all?

Front Page component includes (FPI):
http://www.outfront.net/tutorials_02/getting_started/includes1.htm

Server Side Includes (SSI):
http://bignosebird.com/ssi.shtml

An "include" page allows you to manage content on multiple pages from one source page (the one that is "included")

Basically, the server takes a look at the page before it's sent to the browser... replaces the include command on the page with the content of the "included" page, and then sends it to the browser.

If you have sections of your site that are always the same, you can use an include page to manage it from one single source file.

:)
