RE: Best Graphics program??? - 2/2/2001 16:29:00
Well, I hate to argue with Bill about trying out all the different ones etc but, then again, I disagree with you. Nearly every graphics program out there is going to seem like greek to a new user and trying 10 different ones is only going to compound the problem. I can see trying one or two, based upon input from others but beyond that I say, pick one and dig into it. Otherwise you get discouraged and give up. Also, while some products do give 30 day trials, some of those (like adobe), turn off some features so it is hard to get a good feel for them.

I can see trying one or two, I'll not argue with because my post is so long and you may have forgot what I said at the beginning so I'll cut and paste it for you: Test drive a few, get a feel for the interface and the different tools and then do a search for online tutorials to see if it's a fit. ------------------ Have Fun Bill Fun With PhotoDraw II Fun With Image Composer

I think you're right Bill about being able to create something in any program if you're good. However - I charge my clients by the hour and I'm sure they appreciate the fact I use a more efficient program that saves me time and them money.Marr ------------------ Marrianne Williams OutFront News Stu Reilly Design DreamweaverSites.com - Dreamweaver Templates

I just want to add a comment (a little bit late though...)First of all, you have to understand the different types of graphic programs and what they do: -vector programs: those that let you "draw" objects a though you use a pen. The images created as vectors are much lighter and easy to scale without losing quality. The main vector programs are Adobe Illustrator, Freehand and CorelDraw. -bitmap or image editing programs: those that let you edit images compound of pixels, (such as pictures). The most important is Photoshop. -and finally, those that let you create and edit both types of images and were specially made for creating web graphics. In my humble opinion, the best is Fireworks, but there are many good programs out there, and some of them are very cheap. Other very good options: -Deneba Canvas 7 -Xara X -Jasc PaintShop Pro -CorelDraw (the suit) They are all excellent. You can't go wrong by choosing any of these programs... ------------------ Luis Miguel Gonzalez Buenos Aires, Argentina luismg@gmx.net [This message has been edited by Luis (edited 02-28-2001).] [This message has been edited by Luis (edited 02-28-2001).]

This question may be better suited for the Newbie section, but I thought I would give it a try.I have Corel Photo House that came with my computer. It is a little old, but how does this compare to lower-end Graphic programs? Thanks!

I thought PSP5 was great, then came 6 and now we've got7! It's super fantastic! And a little add-on, Eye Candy adds just that much more ease to getting complex results easily.------------------ Webmaster Resources Made Easy. http://www.webdesigns-4-you.com
