nearly -> Looping swish movie (2/5/2001 20:13:00)

I have made a small movie in Swish 1.51 and to insert it into FP 2000 I un-check the loop movie box, (I want it to play once and then link straight into the next page) export to SWF and insert it into my FP as a plug-in. Unfortunately when previewing the page in my browser it still loops.
Now, I read in the 'jerky Swish' topic that one of they people looked into the Active X properties box of the movie, Why? The only way I can get my movie into FP is via > Insert > Plug-in.

Have you made sure that the loop box is un-checked under the export tab? Under the general tab - there is a box you can check or uncheck to have the preview loop - but this does not keep the movie from looping once it is exported as published.

If you are using your movie as a splash page Or on a page by itself) - the best way to export it to your web is actually by publish. This creates and publishes the html page and the swf file to your web. Your page is complete - all you need to do is add links if you like etc.

I think that using insert/plugin is the best way to go if you are inserting the swish movie into a pre-existing FP page. This ensures that the browser will check to be certain the visitor has the necessary plugin to view the movie correctly or at all.

I have un checked the Loop Movie option in both tabs (still no joy). I see what you mean about publishing, that's an option I'd not seen before but when I insert it into my page as an html file you cannot see it at all (when you preview). Maybe you mean publish it directly to the url but I have not seen that option.

please help,

Neil

After you have your swish file inserted, you can go into the HTML view of FP and change the looping parameter from true to false.

However if you make going to another page as part of the swish, it wouldn't matter if it looped as your visitors would not be on the page with the swish any more.

What I am saying is - when you publish - it already is an HTML file and there is no need to create another one if you are using it as a splash page. Publishing it to your web - wherever it is - is not the same as publishing in FP so I can see how that might get fuzzy. When you publish in Swish - an HTML file is created and that file plus the necessary .swf file is sent to the location you choose. The HTML file is a finished product that you can add to if necessary.

Nancy is right - you can also change the movie's looping command in the html of the page. You can also change the height and width and anything else contained in the code. Someone suggested to me once to make the movie as small as possible in swish and change the overall size in the HTML. You wouldn't believe the difference it makes as to keeping the file size smaller.

See that smilee face. Thats me that is.
I see what you mean now about publishing from swish. After I replied, I went back and had another look and realised that if I publish my movie into my My Webs>my site folder, I could then link to it from one of my existing pages. Enough said. Thanks to everyone for your help. It now works. I have published it for testing purposes within another site. Take a look if you have time.
(wrong forum I know but seeing as we were discusiing it here....)

P.S. the URL is http://www.plummdesign.co.uk/pds%20movie.html

I see nothing but a blank white page. (?)

Also, you've apparently left a space in your file name. You need to rename it, either running the words together or using an underscore in place of the blank.

Well, I was happy. Maybe I pasted up an incorrect URL. I have directed a couple of other people to it and they have seen the movie. The site URL is www.plummdesign.co.uk
which is my website designed to showcase logos, movies etc to potential customers. If you go to the site, go to the Services page and follow the link to PSD the movies should (I hope) play okay. I did have a problem with my Swish movies not registering in NN 4.7. Do you use this browser.

Goober -> RE: Looping swish movie (2/6/2001 20:01:00)

Hi Neil.

I'm sorry, but there's still no movie. Yes, I use NN 4.7. Usually when a movie will not show in NN, that means part of the code is missing.

Do you know what part of the code may be missing from the movie?
I know when I checked the site from work using NN4.7 it was not visible but there was a link to get Flash plug-in.
Never mind, I'll have to look into it. If you do know the missing code I would be grateful.

Thanks

Neil

Goober -> RE: Looping swish movie (2/6/2001 16:12:00)

HEY!!!! I may have found the problem. I looked in IE at the source code. The file name has a blank. That can wreak havoc. Try taking the blank out and running the words together or place an underscore in the blank spot. Change it in both the code (2 places) and file name.

How about this then http://www.plummdesign.co.uk/pds.html
I decided to give FLASH a try. I've had it for a while but found Swish easier to understand. Hopefully I'll have no problems with browser compatability.
Tell me what you think?

Cheers,

Neil

Marr -> RE: Looping swish movie (2/12/2001 20:25:00)

Very nice Neil!

Swish is easier to use - but you can do more with Flash. You can however - create your text files in swish and import them into your Flash movie. Works great! So then you have the best of both worlds. You may have done that - but just in case - I thought I would mention it.

Ummm, Neil? I hope you don't hate me for this, but it's still not working. It's telling me I need a plug-in. I have the plug-in.

Sorry.

You are kiddin' right.
What do I have to learn now.
This is getting beyond a joke.
I assume you are viewing through NN4.7. Why do people insist on using it. Cant someone just insist on an international browser and stick to it.
In fact, I just did. I INSIST.

Anyway, tirade over, I dont hate you Sandy.
I just want my movie to work. Sob Sob.

I'll keep trying.

Thanks for all the help, I feel I ought to start giving credits to Outfront on my sites from now on.

Neil

Goober -> RE: Looping swish movie (2/12/2001 14:29:00)

Did you try closing up the blanks in the file names from your Swish movie? I think that would have done it.

I'm so glad you don't hate me.
