Map with hotspots - 2/6/2001 17:15:00
I will be publishing soon a real estate website that I would like to add maps to. When a person clicks on an area of a county map, they are taken to a second street level map that contains names of neighborhoods and condos. They would then click on the names to obtain information on the ones they clicked. My problem is that I will be adding more and more names to the maps over time, so I need to make sure that the way I set it up now is flexible in the future. Any suggestions as to the best way to go about this so that in the future I do not have to remake the maps? I will be using MS Streets and Trips for maps and MS Photodraw V2 for graphics program. Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking that there is no easy way out of that one. I haven't heard of a way to dynamically update a graphic. Sorry. Thanks Marr, I have started to construct the maps. I think I might have to redo it in about six months, but it will be worth it. Thanks for the feedback.

This is in response to my own question. What I have done is to save the maps as a .mix file, which means that in the future I will be able to move the text around without having to recreate the entire graphic. I am using MS PhotoDraw and I believe this program allows me to make changes then resend the map back to FrontPage with the hotspots still embedded. Either way it will save me time in the future. Thanks. jose.

don't ask me how but I am sure you could do this in a database somehow or even java script. If it was me I would probably import my map into flash and and use very tiny buttons and link them, The only advantage I could think of doing it this way is that you can imbed other maps straight into the flash and would already be loaded. you can download an eval from Macromedia, (I strongly suggest the tutorials) and try it yourself ------------------ Stuart Steele StuWeb Productions 07808254916 http://www.stuweb.co.uk
