dwaite -> Browser Back Button (10/5/2004 17:23:50)

I have 2 computers with the same version of Internet Explorer 6.0.2800.1106, both are Windows 2000 computers. In a web site, there is a form for entering keywords. After you enter the keyword and click submit, you go to another page with summaries of documents related to your keywords and from there you can view the whole document. On one computer I can look at a document and then use the browser back button to return to the keyword page and the keyword I typed in is still there. On the other machine when I use the browser back button to return to the keyword page, the keyword field is blank. I checked all the browser settings and they appear to be the same on both computers. Can anyone tell me what is causing the keyword to disappear on one of the computers?

Clear out the cache on both machines, clear cookies etc

Should solve it

Thanks Dan. That solved my problem. Can you explain why?

No matter how hard you try, not two machines will be built or configured to the exact same setup. You can try as hard as you like, but you will never manage to get two systems to the exact same set-up....

The amount you use the PCs will also affect configuration...and that's your problem here.

One of the PCs will have used the net more, and there for have more information stored in the cache (in this case Temp Internet Files), once these are full, they will not store anymore information until you either (1)increase the quota or (2) delete them.

The data your looking at would have been stored in the Cookies, of which are stored in %systemroot%/Temp or C:\Documents and Settings\$username$\Cookies - once full, information will no longer be stored.

Hope that's clear to you

In IE, go to tools/internet option/advanced - there is a setting that says"delete temp files when closing browser". be sure to click apply and then ok. this will stop the temp files from clogging again.

Or alter the Registry Entry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AdvancedOptions\CRYPTO\CACHE_PAGES

Sorry...I'm a tech head[8|]
