Outlook is hammering my processor - 10/5/2004 20:56:49
Okay, been running Outlook 2000 on my XP box for about two years with nary a hitch. Today, I noticed my processor utilization was 100%, and started examining the processes running in Task Manager. Nothing out of the ordinary, but I disabled several things as a test (I run Spam Inspector and Norton AV) and determined it was Outlook. With it closed, processor utilization returns to normal. Open it back up, it's 100% until I close it again. Rebooted - no change. Ran Spybot S&D - deleted three registry entries relevant to Windows Media Player, but no change. Did a complete scan of the HDD - no viruses. A installed XP SP2 last week and it's been working fine. Anybody have any ideas?

Have you got the latest service packs for Office 2000 installed? There are 3 available, and they may change something back that XP sp2 has changed.

Good idea yogaboy - I'll follow up on that. In the meantime, I left Outlook closed overnight and it seems to have resolved itself. I'm going to check the Office Updates site and keep an eye on it. I don't like it when things are running for no apparent reason...
