Marketing - 10/7/2004 15:17:10
I'm looking to be able to advertise my site, so i get more people looking at it and enquiring about using my services. Has anyone got any ideas how I can do this for the minimal amount of money.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Welcome to OutFront Chris!!!

I would start with Oveture and also AdSense. Depending on your genre it might be inexpensive. You can however control or put a daily cap on funds spent which is nice.

Also if selling starting an affiliate program is always a plus.

Another route would be to start getting links back to your site.

Take care,

Brian

It's always advisable to advertise your domain name in non-web ways...

Make sure that your domain name appears on all of your business papers, business cards, letterhead, hats, T-shirts, anything with your company name or logo should include your domain name.

Any advertising that you do should also include it.

"Real-world" advertising often gets overlooked.

If you have the means, local sponsorships of church or youth groups is a good way to advertise. Local youth sports teams work too.

Basically you want the domain name in as many real-world places that you can get it.

Chris - As Bobby mentioned, the non-web ways are very effective. There are lots of things that you can do that are low-cost. Creativity is the name of the game. What you might consider doing is a postcard to friends and family 'announcing' your new website and/or company. The reason I say postcards is for several reasons - cost per piece is .23 rather than .37. You can buy card stock at an office supply store (fairly inexpensive) and use any number of pieces of software to design and print your postcards. I use our color inkjet printer and they come out great! (I use a paper cutter but you can have the office supply or copy store cut them for a nominal fee - less expensive than buying the fancy perforated postcard paper.) Also, with a postcard, they see it right off - don't have to open the envelope. Make it a 'grabber' - I believe you have one or two seconds to get them to read it. (If you'd like more specifics, let me know - happy to help.)

Of course emails to friends & family are good too - and even cheaper. Or just add your web link at the bottom of your signature.

Bobby's right, though - put it on everything! Think about your audience - look where they look and try to be even more creative than your competition. I've found some ideas in marketing books at the library too. See if you can find a friend or family member (a supportive one, of course) who you can brainstorm with and throw ideas off. You'll come up with some crazy ones, but probably some good ones too.

Best of luck!

Thank you for your advice, it is appreciated and I will of course follow it.

I'm in the process of thinking about a press release to help get my company noticed.

I am a big fan at registering sites at a ton of directories. mix up the link text and try to make it keyword rich when possible. if you can get links from like 50 or more domains that can be a rather powerful thing and you can usually do it for around a few grand.

just make sure that the links you get are static links on pages which the search engines index.
