Everyone I know who've put it on is complaining. My machine is slower to load as is my other half's. I've been through and done a clean up, scanned for viruses and trojans etc. cleared out cache and cookies and defragged everything in sight (no, not with Windows pathetic offering - a proper utility). Still much slower than it was. _____________________________ If it ain't broke..... fix it until it is. GAWDS Now where did I put that Doctype?

I'm not sure why that is, other than there are likely more services running in the background at startup. The security monitor is probably one of those... When you install new software MS gaily tell you about minimum requirements but with SP2 you get nothing. It just loads in. Would it help rule anything in or out to pull your CAT-5 cable from the NIC and see what happens? (Or kill your wireless connection if applicable) Just a thought. Regarding the minimum specs, I think the assumption would be that if your box can run XP sufficiently, it can handle the service pack. But I've seen the "chalk talk" on what can happen when you assume... FWIW, I have a two yr old Dell Dimension (stock) with a 1.3Ghz Celeron processor, 256MB of RAM and I use Norton for AV. I really haven't had any trouble at all with SP2. Keep getting the odd load error with Ad-aware's Adwatch though. Restart seems to fix it. Machine is a Dell Dimension P4 1.70GHz 384Mb RAM. Not new by any means and not an education freebie! Now self employed doing web design etc. Broke, 27 kids, huge mortgage .....all donations for new top spec PC gratefully received. _____________________________ If it ain't broke..... fix it until it is. If Dial-up just disconnect, if BB, unplug modem. On the AMD Duron mentioned in my post above...it was connected to the net via the network I have at home, and first SP2 install wasn't successful - Boot up in safe mode, remoof SP2, restart in normal mode, unplug Ethernet cable, install SP2 again - no problems Might help some others out there _____________________________ (in reply to jaybee)

I actually only have two kids, but one of them is a teenager, so he creates the stomach acid and headaches of 25 little ones. Me and the Mrs. traded up for a bigger house in April of this year, and I quit my job a month later to go self-employed. I'll probably be using this computer until I get so old that I can no longer control my bladder. I've got a support query in with Lavasoft at the moment. I'm also upgrading to 1Gb memory. HA HA! The Power!!!! _____________________________ If it ain't broke..... fix it until it is.
