MalcolmS -> Can't publish to new host via FP2003 (10/10/2004 12:40:10)

I've successfully published a site direct from Frontpage (2003) for some time now ( http://www.scottisheggs.co.uk ). But I've recently run out disk space so I thought I'd move it to another, cheaper, host.

I can't get FP to publish my site to the new host though. The host provides a panel to allow the FP Extensions to be installed, which I've done, and looking at the file structure, and the messages at installation time, it looks as though it was successful.

I can publish from FP using FTP but each time I try to publish direct from FP (I cleared the FTP files and reinstalled the FP Extensions first) I get the message "The web server does not appear to have Windows Sharepoint Services installed".

The temporary url I've been given by my host is http://skybax.rapidhoster.co.uk/~scottish (i haven't moved my scottisheggs.co.uk domain over yet).

Can anyone see if I'm doing anything wrong??

TIA

Malcolm

Malcolm

Contact your host and ask them to install Sharepoint Services on your account. Sharepoint services are required for some of the FP2003 features, publishing included

Thanks Dan

didn't appreciate that FP Extensions and Sharepoint services were two different things... Many thanks for your help

Dan

this was the reponse from my host...

>>You do not need sharepoint services to publish your site - I
>>have just double checked this by publishing a site myself

which doesn't take me forward at all! :(

Malcolm

What version of FP are they using?

MalcolmS -> RE: Can't publish to new host via FP2003 (10/11/2004 9:13:40)

2002 according to their website.

When I use CPanel to install/re-install I get these messages.

======

does that 'help' at all?

Malcolm

Giomanach -> RE: Can't publish to new host via FP2003 (10/11/2004 9:16:12)

Remove the extensions totally, and then re-install them, don't install over the current installation.

They're using FP2002? FP2002 doesn't utilise Sharepoint services, FP2003 does

MalcolmS -> RE: Can't publish to new host via FP2003 (10/11/2004 9:37:57)

i've done that several times Dan, i only used the re-install option there to let you see the messages with the version numbers. If I do a remove and clean install I get...

======
Starting install, port: 80.

Creating web http://www.scottisheggs.co.uk.
Chowning Content in service /.
Install completed.

Starting chown, port: 80, web: "/".

DocumentRoot: "/home/scottish/public_html"
Setting Password
Frontpage passthough auth enabled!
======

If I then go to FrontPage and try to do a Publish Site to a Remote Web Server Type : FrontPage or Sharepoint Services using http://skybax.rapidhoster.co.uk/~scottish I get the error attached...

Giomanach -> RE: Can't publish to new host via FP2003 (10/11/2004 9:43:53)

Try publishing to

http://skybax.rapidhoster.co.uk/

Using the username scottish and your password

MalcolmS -> RE: Can't publish to new host via FP2003 (10/11/2004 9:53:49)

that's the same. I never get to the point of being asked for a user name or password with this method of publishing.

If I FTP to ftp://skybax.rapidhoster.co.uk/public_html, I get asked for my user name and password and that works okay.

Thanks for sticking with this by the way! Much appreciated.

:-)

Giomanach -> RE: Can't publish to new host via FP2003 (10/11/2004 10:01:46)

Try the WebDav option for publishing...

You're on a linux server, so there shouldn't be any login problems....

MalcolmS -> RE: Can't publish to new host via FP2003 (10/11/2004 10:16:03)

If I WebDAV to http://skybax.rapidhoster.co.uk I get the attached error.

If I publish to http://skybax.rapidhoster.co.uk/~scottish I get a message that a web site doesn't exist at that address do you want to create one? If I reply Y i get a further message similar to before suggesting that FP Extensions etc may not be installed and then this error,

The problem is with the host, no you, I suggest you contact them, linking to this thread.

I use the same Control Panel on my servers, and don't get any problems....

MalcolmS -> RE: Can't publish to new host via FP2003 (10/11/2004 10:25:08)

Thanks Dan, that's a bit of a relief as I thought it was me going daft here!

I've already raised 3 support tickets with the host regarding this problem - they've all gone unanswered after over a week! I think you can guess my next action! :-)

Giomanach -> RE: Can't publish to new host via FP2003 (10/11/2004 11:11:06)

Get yourself on Tom's hosting, they are superb packages...

I've had a peek when helping friends hosted on Toms servers, and they are of high quality[;)]

Take Care

MalcolmS -> RE: Can't publish to new host via FP2003 (10/11/2004 11:31:06)

Thanks for all your help.

I think I might have to persevere and get this sorted as what Tom charges a month I'm paying a year at the moment!

Yes, I know, you only get what you pay for! [:)]

MalcolmS -> RE: Can't publish to new host via FP2003 (10/13/2004 17:17:00)

hate to resurrect this but I'm getting nowhere with my host and I don't understand why this is not working (when I think it should)...

The FrontPage Extensions are installed via CPanel which I assume runs a standard script that sticks the files in the same directory structure for everyone who request them.

The messages it returns states it's installing to http://www.scottisheggs.co.uk - which is actually impossible as that is still with my current host.

======
Starting install, port: 80.

Creating web http://www.scottisheggs.co.uk.
Chowning Content in service /.
Install completed.

Starting chown, port: 80, web: "/".

DocumentRoot: "/home/scottish/public_html"
Setting Password
Frontpage passthough auth enabled!
======

However the script says it's installed them to /home/scottish/public_html and the host says I have a temporary url until I transfer my domain - that is http://skybax.rapidhoster.co.uk/~scottish/ or http://216.66.18.192/~scottish/

If I go there I can 'see' the FPE file structure - so why can't FP? Am I pointing FP at the wrong place??

A long shot - does FP not like the '~' in the url?

Malcolm

MalcolmS -> RE: Can't publish to new host via FP2003 (10/13/2004 18:06:57)

Did I say that I can publish from FP via FTP to ftp://skybax.rapidhoster.co.uk/public_html ??

Malcolm

Giomanach -> RE: Can't publish to new host via FP2003 (10/15/2004 7:50:37)

You need a new host....

It's as simple as that Malcom
