Can't publish to new host via FP2003 - 10/10/2004 12:40:10
I've successfully published a site direct from Frontpage (2003) for some time now ( http://www.scottisheggs.co.uk ). But I've recently run out disk space so I thought I'd move it to another, cheaper, host. I can't get FP to publish my site to the new host though. The host provides a panel to allow the FP Extensions to be installed, which I've done, and looking at the file structure, and the messages at installation time, it looks as though it was successful. I can publish from FP using FTP but each time I try to publish direct from FP (I cleared the FTP files and reinstalled the FP Extensions first) I get the message "The web server does not appear to have Windows Sharepoint Services installed". The temporary url I've been given by my host is http://skybax.rapidhoster.co.uk/~scottish (i haven't moved my scottisheggs.co.uk domain over yet). Can anyone see if I'm doing anything wrong?? TIA Malcolm

Malcolm Contact your host and ask them to install Sharepoint Services on your account. Sharepoint services are required for some of the FP2003 features, publishing included HTH

Dan this was the reponse from my host... >>You do not need sharepoint services to publish your site - I >>have just double checked this by publishing a site myself which doesn't take me forward at all! :( Malcolm

2002 according to their website. When I use CPanel to install/re-install I get these messages. ====== Starting install, port: 80. Created: 11 Oct 2004 13:09:16 -0000 Version: 5.0.2.2634 Server extensions already installed on port 80. Reverting to upgrade. Starting upgrade, port: 80. Created: 11 Oct 2004 13:09:16 -0000 Version: 5.0.2.2634 Chowning Content in service /. Port 80: Upgrade completed. Upgraded Version: 5.0.2.2634. Starting chown, port: 80, web: "/". DocumentRoot: "/home/scottish/public_html" Setting Password Frontpage passthough auth enabled! ====== does that 'help' at all? Malcolm

Remove the extensions totally, and then re-install them, don't install over the current installation. They're using FP2002? FP2002 doesn't utilise Sharepoint services, FP2003 does

that's the same. I never get to the point of being asked for a user name or password with this method of publishing. If I FTP to ftp://skybax.rapidhoster.co.uk/public_html, I get asked for my user name and password and that works okay. Thanks for sticking with this by the way! Much appreciated. :-) Malcolm

Try the WebDav option for publishing... You're on a linux server, so there shouldn't be any login problems....

The problem is with the host, no you, I suggest you contact them, linking to this thread. I use the same Control Panel on my servers, and don't get any problems....

Thanks Dan, that's a bit of a relief as I thought it was me going daft here! I've already raised 3 support tickets with the host regarding this problem - they've all gone unanswered after over a week! I think you can guess my next action! :-) Malcolm

hate to resurrect this but I'm getting nowhere with my host and I don't understand why this is not working (when I think it should)... The FrontPage Extensions are installed via CPanel which I assume runs a standard script that sticks the files in the same directory structure for everyone who request them. The messages it returns states it's installing to http://www.scottisheggs.co.uk - which is actually impossible as that is still with my current host. ====== Starting install, port: 80. Creating web http://www.scottisheggs.co.uk. Chowning Content in service /. Install completed. Starting chown, port: 80, web: "/". DocumentRoot: "/home/scottish/public_html" Setting Password Frontpage passthough auth enabled! ====== However the script says it's installed them to /home/scottish/public_html and the host says I have a temporary url until I transfer my domain - that is http://skybax.rapidhoster.co.uk/~scottish/ or http://216.66.18.192/~scottish/ If I go there I can 'see' the FPE file structure - so why can't FP? Am I pointing FP at the wrong place?? A long shot - does FP not like the '~' in the url? Malcolm
